Thursday’s NHL prop picks

Travis Konecny to record a point (-160 via DraftKings) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Flyers return to Philadelphia tonight for a much-needed homestand. The Orange and Black stumbled toward the end of their road trip but have a good chance to bounce back at home against Columbus.

Travis Konecny is leading the way for the Flyers this season with 33 points (18 goals, 15 assists) in 37 games. While the team has struggled, the top-line forward has not. Konecny is riding a seven-game point streak and has recorded a point in 13 of the last 16 games.

The Flyers are big favorites at home tonight and should score at least three or four goals. Konecny should be in on the action.

Nikita Kucherov to score a goal (+110 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐

Nikita Kucherov is carrying the Tampa Bay Lightning this season. He has a league-leading 63 points, and his 27 goals trail only league leader Auston Matthews (30).

Kucherov has scored in four straight games, six of his past seven, and 10 of his last 14 games. Overall, the veteran winger has scored in exactly half of his 38 games this season.

We’re getting some favorable odds here of +110 at FanDuel. His odds to pot a goal in a fifth straight are -120 on BetMGM and DraftKings and an even steeper -145 on Caesars.

Thursday’s NHL game picks

Sabres ML vs. Canadiens (-132 via FanDuel) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Canadiens are at home, but that may be the only advantage they have in this one. Montreal is in a bad spot, returning from a long road trip to play its fourth game in six nights. The Habs battled for a win in Dallas on Tuesday night to stop a three-game losing streak.

While Buffalo hasn’t been much better — if at all — the Sabres have had three days off after a back-to-back split to end the calendar year. Their 2-2-1 record in their last five games isn’t impressive, but they picked up a big win against the Toronto Maple Leafs and a point at Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers.

The Sabres are mostly healthy now, with just Kyle Okposo on the injury list, while the Canadiens continue to get beat up.

Coyotes ML vs. Islanders (+100 via BetMGM) ⭐⭐⭐

The Coyotes entered 2024 in a playoff spot thanks largely to their 12-6-0 record at Mullett Arena this season. The smaller venue has become a tough place to play for opposing teams over the last two years.

The Islanders are also in the playoff mix in their conference, but they have more losses (10 in regulation, 10 in overtime/shootout) than wins (17) this season. They’re 7-6-4 on the road as well.

New York comes into this game after losing in Pittsburgh and allowing the Avalanche to come back to win on Tuesday night. The Isles have lost three of their last four games since the holiday break.

Arizona is 7-2-0 in its last nine games and rarely loses two straight at home. This is a great price to get even money on the Coyotes.
