Bo Nix will be out for the remainder of the season after suffering a fractured ankle late in the Broncos' playoff win against the Bills, head coach Sean Payton announced following the game. Nix will undergo surgery as a result, and is set to miss the rest of the playoffs.
When did Nix get injured?
Payton initially said the injury to his star quarterback happened during the second-last play of the game - a kneel down to get kicker Will Lutz a better look at his eventual 23-yard game-winning field goal. He eventually clarified and said the injury happened during Nix's designed quarterback run on the same drive.
With Nix out, the Broncos will turn to Jarrett Stidham to try and complete their run to the Super Bowl.
Who is Broncos backup QB Jarrett Stidham?
Jarrett Stidham was drafted in the fourth round (133rd overall) by the New England Patriots in 2019 after playing college football at Baylor and Auburn.
Stidham has appeared in 19 regular-season games with four starts for the Patriots, Las Vegas Raiders, and Broncos, completing 117 of 197 passes (59.4%) for 1,422 yards with eight touchdowns and eight interceptions for a 78.3 passer rating.
His most productive season came in 2022 with the Raiders, where he set career highs in passing yards (656), completions (53), and touchdown passes (4).
Stidham has bounced between backup and occasional starting roles throughout his career, including a stint as Denver’s starter in 2023. He signed a two-year deal with the Broncos in March 2025.
Jarrett Stidham career stats
Stidham appeared in just one game for the Broncos this year after getting into three games a year ago. He hasn't started a game since 2023 with Denver (1-1 in two starts).
A former fourth-round pick of the New England Patriots, Stidham has played for three teams (also the Las Vegas Raiders), and is 1-3 in four starts and 20 total appearances.
| Record | Completion percentage | Pass. yards | Pass TD |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1-3 | 59.4% (117-197) | 1,422 | 8 |
Broncos' Super Bowl odds plummet despite win over Bills
The Broncos have the longest Super Bowl odds (+1200) despite earning their way to the AFC Championship Game after defeating the Buffalo Bills 33-30 in overtime. Are they worth a long shot bet? I'd remain patient here, as Stidham will likely be in tough against either the Houston Texans or New England Patriots next week.
