Trey Benson was one of the more popular fantasy football adds in recent memory, following James Conner’s season-ending foot injury in Week 3. Benson suffered his own injury, however, just days later on a Thursday nighter in Week 4. The Florida State product subsequently had arthroscopic surgery on his meniscus.
Now, Cardinals fans and fantasy football owners are wondering when Benson will return and be back in uniform. Below, we will dish out a Benson injury update and also look at Cardinals betting odds.
🏥 When will Trey Benson return and be back with Cardinals?
The good news is that Benson will almost certainly play again this season, barring any major setbacks. In fact, we could see Benson back on the field for the Cardinals as soon as early November.
The recovery time from the type of meniscus surgery Benson had is around 4-to-6 weeks. Benson is on IR, so he must miss at least four games. The earliest game in which he would be eligible to return is Week 10 against the Seahawks in Seattle. It is probable that the team will give Benson a little bit more time to recover, however, so a Week 11 or Week 12 return is more likely.
Here is a look at the Cardinals’ schedule around the time that Benson is expected to return.
- Week 10 (Sunday, Nov. 9): Arizona Cardinals at Seattle Seahawks
- Week 11 (Thursday, Nov. 13): New York Jets at Arizona Cardinals
- Week 12 (Sunday, Nov. 23): Arizona Cardinals at Cincinnati Bengals
- Week 13 (Monday, Dec. 1): New York Giants at Arizona Cardinals
⏳ How long will Trey Benson be out for?
Benson is believed to have undergone a meniscectomy, which is a minimally invasive procedure. NFL players often return to play in just over a month following this procedure.
In fact, during the 2023 season, former Detroit Lions center Frank Ragnow missed just one game after the surgery.
With all the cutting that running backs do, Benson will be on a longer timeline. But Benson being out any longer than six or seven weeks is unlikely.
🏈 Benson fantasy football outlook
Benson was rostered in 80 percent of Yahoo! fantasy football leagues immediately following James Conner’s injury.
The 23-year-old RB was not picked at all in many 12-team PPR fantasy drafts. If he was picked he was a late rounder.
