Trevor Lawrence MVP Odds: Jags QB Remains Long Shot After Game-Winning Play

I think it's time to start taking Trevor Lawrence's NFL MVP odds a little more seriously.
The Jacksonville Jaguars signal-caller improved his team to 4-1 - tied atop the AFC South - with a miraculous goal-line scramble for his second rushing touchdown of the game. It's even more notable that the game was on Monday Night Football, with the Jags as a 3.5-point underdog, head-to-head against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Yet, Lawrence remains a long-shot by the latest NFL MVP odds following Week 5.

Trevor Lawrence stats & record
The first-overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft is on the brink of the 2025 NFL MVP conversation while not even yet shedding the "bust" label that has been latched to his name while going 26-39 over four-plus seasons.
He has just one Pro Bowl appearance, finished in the top seven (seventh) in MVP voting just once, and has made just one trip to the playoffs (1-1), and that's with the benefit of playing in the AFC South.
But on his 26th birthday, Lawrence put together one of the best games of his pro career. It was his fifth game under the tutelage of new Jaguars head coach Liam Coen, a surging contender in the NFL Coach of the Year odds.
Here are Lawrence's key stats through five games of the 2025 NFL season.
- Completion percentage: 60.4% (102-for-169)
- Yards: 1,066
- Touchdowns: 6
- Interceptions: 5
- QBR: 48.8
- Rushing yards: 86
- Rushing touchdowns: 2
Should you bet Trevor Lawrence for MVP?
The Jaguars just beat the (injury-riddled) San Francisco 49ers on the road and the Chiefs at home. They'll host the Seattle Seahawks next week before their annual London game, against the Los Angeles Rams, in Week 7.
They'll then have a bye to recover from the cross-Atlantic travel before playing six of their final 10 games on the road. Five of those 10 games will come against AFC South opponents.
While Lawrence's stats through five weeks are rather mundane, Week 5 may represent a significant turning point, especially early in Coen's tenure as head coach. The most appealing sign of the game was Lawrence's season-high 54 rushing yards (on 10 attempts), resulting in two touchdowns, including the game-winner.
Lawrence (+6000) has the longest NFL MVP odds of any 4-1 QB and may have the best shot at a division title. He's worth a small sprinkle at these odds following a week which saw award frontrunners Josh Allen, Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, Justin Herbert, and Matthew Stafford all suffer losses.
The 2025 NFL MVP race is wide open.
