💰 Seahawks vs. 49ers weather: Betting impact today
Both of these teams in the NFC West championship matchup are familiar with playing in the rain, so they should feel right at home tonight at Levi's Stadium with a 100% chance of precipitation and potential thunderstorms in the forecast.
The latest weather report calls for mid-50s temperatures with 1-2 inches of rain, though that comes with winds ranging from 9-16 mph with gusts as high as 28 mph. That accompanies the chances of thunderstorms, especially with the humidity as high as 92% by the fourth quarter of this fight for the NFC's No. 1 seed.
Here's how I'd consider the weather when betting Seahawks vs. 49ers today:
Seahawks vs. 49ers weather impact
- Expect a conservative start. There are so many reasons to predict a slow start for these offenses tonight: the stakes, the opposition, and the weather, too. While I think both teams will adjust later into the game, I don't expect either side to take too many shots early on as they get their footing (literally) in these rain storms.
- Kickers could be in trouble. The rainy conditions are the most predictable element of tonight's NFC West title game, but the wind could play a larger role in the final outcome. Winds exceeding 10 mph are always a concern for the kicking game, but those wind gusts flirting with 30 mph are downright hostile for special teams.
- Who can avoid the big mistake? As we broke down in our weather report for the first game today, wet conditions always increase the risk of fumbles and other turnovers with players struggling to hold onto the pigskin. Both of these defenses are already opportunistic in regular conditions, so it'll be an extra challenge for both sides to avoid the back-breaking turnover late in the game.
