Ranking Potential Super Bowl Matchups: Rams vs. Patriots Would Be Pure Cinema

With Conference Championship weekend quickly approaching, we've got four potential Super Bowl matchups - let's rank 'em in terms of watchability (and pure cinema), and see which teams would provide the best entertainment come Feb. 8.
How we rank our matchups
These rankings are based purely on entertainment purposes. If you like defensive matchups and little to no points being scored, all the power to ya - we're looking for fireworks in the Super Bowl with the league's best offenses, a matchup that's filled with superstar talent. These rankings reflect just that.
| Matchup | Watchability ranking |
|---|---|
| Seahawks vs. Broncos | ⭐ |
| Rams vs. Broncos | ⭐⭐ |
| Seahawks vs. Patriots | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ |
| Rams vs. Patriots | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ |
4. Seahawks vs. Broncos
Let's be serious, a Jarrett Stidham vs. Sam Darnold matchup is a game nobody wants to watch, especially when Stidham will likely get eaten alive by that vaunted No. 1 defense in Seattle. This could quickly turn into the Punt Bowl, too, as the defense in Denver is no slouch, either.
I can just see it now, both quarterbacks would throw for under 200 yards, with Kenneth Walker winning MVP after taking 25 carries for 110 yards and a touchdown. Gross.
No matter how you spin it, there are better Super Bowl matchups out there, and this comes in as an easy fourth in our rankings.
Matchup spread and total: Seahawks -8.5, 40.5
3. Rams vs. Broncos
While seeing Matthew Stafford take down the Broncos en route to Super Bowl MVP (on top of his regular-season MVP award) would be fun to watch, there are betting matchups on the table. Yes, the Broncos' defense would be able to hold the Rams at bay ... for about a half. We'd absolutely see that unit wear down over the course of the game with the offense unable to sustain lengthy drives against the 11th-ranked rushing defense.
While we're getting a better matchup here than Seahawks-Broncos, it's still not giving me the Super Bowl dopamine hit we all need and want.
Matchup spread and total: Rams -8.5, 45.5
2. Seahawks vs. Patriots
We're getting closer to the best Super Bowl matchup, although we're not quite there yet. Sam Darnold vs. Drake Maye wouldn't exactly light the world on fire, but we would get some memorable moments out of them.
Maye, for his part, would be the lone quarterback coming out of the AFC Championship Game capable of moving the ball against the Seahawks through the air, and we'd undoubtedly see some of his patented deep balls connect under the brightest lights of them all. Extra points for a Stefon Diggs touchdown, too, who's become one of the best entertainers in the league (with a side of Cardi B).
The matchup between the Pats' defense and Seattle's offense would also be a fun watch, with Jaxon Smith-Njigba tasked with taking down the league's seventh-best secondary. While this would be a great watch, there's one matchup we all deserve.
Matchup spread and total: Seahawks -3.5, 45.5
1. Rams vs. Patriots
Here. We. Go.
Give me the two MVP favorites in Drake Maye and Matthew Stafford going head-to-head; two of the top-five scoring offenses in all of football. Winner takes all. Rams vs. Patriots is the Super Bowl matchup we all deserve.
Just think about it - Stefon Diggs, Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, and a pair of running back rooms capable of explosive plays, we'd be in for some offensive fireworks. The total is sitting close to 51.5 points for this matchup, the highest total of any hypotheticals. Our collective eyes would be treated to one of the better Super Bowls in recent memory. Here's to hoping.
Matchup spread and total: Rams -3.5, 51.5
