AFC and NFC championship NFL playoff specials predictions

All teams to score two-plus touchdowns (+150) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

There's no short of offensive napalm throughout Championship Sunday. That's especially true for the NFC clash after the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions ranked second and third, respectively, in total offensive touchdowns scored throughout the regular season (61 for San Francisco, and 58 for Detroit).

The Lions have scored 30-plus points 10 times in 2023-24, including the playoffs, and the imposing Niners have hit that mark nine times. There will be ample fireworks in a game that's been given by far the highest total of the week at 51.5, as noted in our AFC and NFC Championship odds, which sails above the 44.5 the Chiefs-Ravens matchup is getting.

Detroit and San Francisco are two of the three teams playing on Sunday that finished the regular season among the top five in points per game, with the Baltimore Ravens the other. The touchdown proficiency of all three squads could make this a plus-money steal. The Ravens are coming off a triumph over the Houston Texans that featured four touchdowns, three of which came in just the second half when the AFC powerhouse club was pulling away.

The weak link for this bet could be the Kansas City Chiefs, which would have been a blasphemous thing to say in the not-so-distant past. The Chiefs' offense just never seemed to click all season, with Patrick Mahomes' receivers letting him down too often. But it's remarkable how quickly a consistent contender sheds all those worries come playoff time, with the Chiefs scoring five touchdowns over two games.

Either Travis Kelce or Sam LaPorta to record 100-plus receiving yards (+225) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Kelce is one of those pass-catchers who has been struggling to come through for Mahomes, and at times the 34-year-old has seemed like he's aging quickly.

But the Mahomes-Kelce connection runs deep, and the two can reignite it fast.

We saw that earlier in 2023-24 when Kelce recorded an astounding 303 receiving yards over a two-game stretch during Weeks 6 and 7. And although he's fallen short of the mark needed here, Kelce has still been productive in the playoffs as a downfield threat while finishing with 70-plus yards twice, and averaging 15 yards per grab against the Buffalo Bills during the Divisional Round.

Meanwhile, Sam LaPorta has quickly become a central figure on a lethal passing attack.

He sailed high above this mark once during the regular season while posting 140 yards against the New Orleans Saints. There's a link between the Saints and 49ers, LaPorta's opposition on Sunday. Both teams boast imposing defenses, but both are also middling against tight ends, with the 49ers and Saints ranking 15th and 16th, respectively, against the position.

LaPorta also showed his consistent deep-threat ability while finishing fourth in air yards among tight ends during the campaign, and third in 30-plus yard receptions.

If you're looking for a similar though more conservative play at still appealing odds involving two field-stretchers, consider either Amon-Ra St. Brown or Rashee Rice getting to the same 100-plus yard mark (+115).

Christian McCaffrey and Jahmyr Gibbs to combine for 100-plus receiving yards (+240) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Christian McCaffrey and Jahmyr Gibbs both finished among the top 10 in receptions among running backs during the season, with the former ranking third at 72 catches. They each ended up with 50-plus targets, too.

Gibbs has been sizzling as a receiver during the playoffs while recording 40-plus yards in two straight games. Overall he's hit that mark four times in 2023-24, and McCaffrey has done so six times, including two outbursts for 70-plus yards. Getting to that plateau means both are close to doing the lifting required to cash the Over here, and then we're one chunk gain from a screen away from a juicy plus-odds payout.

There's also a matchup opportunity for both running backs to capitalize on Sunday, particularly for Gibbs. The Lions' defense ranks a mid-pack 15th against running backs after allowing 526 yards during the regular season, while the Niners finished 25th with 625 yards.
