If you forced me into it, I'd lean Duke by a hair on this spread--but I'm just not touching this line with the number at 6.5. I prefer to attack what I consider to be a better edge on the total as St. John's (12-23 on Overs) and Duke (12-24 on Overs) both come into this matchup with some of the lowest Over rates in the nation.
Duke has the No. 1 defensive rating in the country, with the Johnnies inside the top 10, per KenPom. St. John's offensive rating is outside the top 40. The Red Storm just isn't efficient enough to get to a requisite point total against this suffocating Blue Devil defense.
We've seen Duke play to totals below 142.5 in 14 of its last 20 games. Even against a faster-paced team with a slightly lesser defense, St. John's mustered only 67 points in the Second Round win over Kansas.
