πŸ†š 2026 NCAA Women's Tournament format explained

The 2026 NCAA Women's Tournament features 68 teams competing in a single-elimination format across three weeks. The field opens with the First Four - four play-in games hosted by top seeds - which whittles the bracket down to 64. Our C Jackson Cowart broke down the Women's March Madness odds in the wake of Selection Sunday.

Those 64 teams are divided into four regions and seeded 1 through 16, with No. 1 seeds facing No. 16s in the opening round. Lose once, and you're done.

Survivors advance through the Round of 32, Sweet 16, and Elite Eight before the last four teams meet at the Final Four in Phoenix, where one champion is crowned on Sunday, April 5.

Phoenix is hosting the Women's Final Four for the first time at the Mortgage Matchup Center - home of the NBA's Phoenix Suns and WNBA's Phoenix Mercury.

The semifinals tip off Friday, April 3, with the national championship game set for Sunday, April 5 at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.

Unlike the men's tournament, the women's first two rounds are hosted by the top 16 seeds at their home arenas.
