Two of the most successful coaches in college basketball lead their teams into a March Madness Sweet 16 matchup, as Tom Izzo's No. 3 seed Michigan State faces Dan Hurley's No. 2 seed UConn. The game tips from Capital One Arena at 9:45 p.m. ET, airing on CBS, and the Huskies are listed as 1.5-point betting favorites.

These head coaches wouldn't be successful without elite players, and my Michigan State vs. UConn player props target three of the most exciting names in this game. I offer a varied approach from points, to 3-point field goals, to assists, while making note of opposing defenses' tendencies and current player form as part of our March Madness predictions

πŸ’° Best Michigan State vs. UConn prop bet

See all of our March Madness prop bets for the 2026 NCAA Tournament.

Tarris Reed Under 14.5 points (-125)

Tarris Reed has been feast or famine of late, scoring 17 or more points in three of the last five games, while being held to 10 or fewer in the other two. The Huskies run great off the ball action in an effort to clear out space for Reed to work one-on-one, but the issue is that Michigan State has one of the country’s elite individual post defenders to guard Reed.

Spartans center Carson Cooper allows just 0.68 points per possession in man-to-man post matchups. And Michigan State overall ranks in the top-50 per KenPom in 2-point percentage defense.

πŸ”₯ More Michigan State vs. UConn prop picks

See the latest March Madness odds for every team in the 2026 NCAA Tournament.

Coen Carr Under 0.5 3-pointers made (-115)

Coen Carr made two 3-pointers in his last game, something he has now done just five times all season. And while he has made at least one 3-pointer in three consecutive games, I am selling high on him since he has also gone 19 games this season without a made basket from beyond the arc.

Carr’s athleticism is a big reason Michigan State has the third-highest dunk rate in the country. And UConn does a great job of funneling teams off the 3-point line while not aggressively helping off shooters, knowing it has Reed’s shot-blocking ability if it gets beat off the dribble.

Carr has played 53 career games against Tier A opponents (top-50 KenPom teams), and has averaged fewer than one 3-point attempt per game in such games, while connecting on just 23.9% of his perimeter shots.

Alex Karaban Over 1.5 assists (-145)

Dan Hurley is an offensive genius who runs some of the best off-the-ball action in the country. Defending such action is not a strength of the Spartans defense, as they own a second percentile efficiency rating on a 55th percentile off-the-ball rate allowed, per Synergy.

They are not entirely the same systems, but Minnesota carved up Michigan State for 1.4 points per possession off the ball, and 1.21 points per possession overall in a surprising Feb. 4 road loss.

Michigan State will allow ball movement, as it ranks 291st with a 56.3% assist rate allowed. That number was pretty consistent in Big Ten play as well (56.2%), ranking 10th-worst in the conference.

πŸš€ Michigan State vs. UConn same-game parlay

All three props make up a strong three-leg same-game parlay, as the defensive tendencies of each opponent dictate strong leans to each side of this total. bet365 was my go-to top sports betting site for this wager, as it was one of the only ones offering Unders for the points and 3-pointers props, while adding Karaban to the list of players available under the assists category.

💵 Michigan State vs. UConn SGP picks

πŸ’‘ How I'm betting Michigan State vs. UConn props: March Madness strategy

Follow all of our college basketball analysis and expert predictions for March Madness.

Tarris Reed's O/U for points is at 13.5 at the majority of sportsbooks, so bettors are getting great value through bet365's 55.56% odds with a total a full point higher.

Trends also suggest that Alex Karaban has a great chance to finish with two-plus assists, as he has done so in nine of the previous 10 games. Overall, while the 2.36 units of max profit are not a great overall return for three units risked, I am hoping to make up for that with a strong same-game parlay that pays +469.
