Keshon Gilbert was not only Iowa State’s leading scorer last season, but he is second on the team this season with 14.1 points per game and leads the Cyclones with 4.5 assists per game.

It should not come as a surprise that Iowa State’s last two losses at Houston and Oklahoma State coincided with Gilbert being out with an illness. 

And while the Cyclones got leading scorer Curtis Jones back from a short one-game absence as he dealt with a muscle strain, he had his lowest offensive rating in any of his last four games as he gutted out 29 minutes against the Cowboys.

Iowa State had a favorable conference schedule with only having to play Houston and Texas Tech, two of the top three teams in the Big 12, once apiece.

A relatively healthy Cyclones lost by 11 points in overtime at Arizona on Jan. 27 after committing 18 turnovers (to go with 12 assists) and making just 29.2% of their 3-point attempts.
