Victor Wembanyama has been a dominant force in the NBA since his arrival two years ago. This season has been shaping up to be Wemby’s best yet, but he has been sidetracked by injury once again. The Spurs superstar has not played since Nov. 14. Fantasy basketball owners and Spurs fans are now wondering when Wembanyama will be back and return to the court. This Wemby injury update will provide all of the latest details. We will also look at Wemby’s betting odds moving forward, as well as Spurs futures.

⏳ When will Victor Wembanyama return and be back with Spurs?

Wembanyama suffered an injury in a Nov. 14 game against Golden State. An MRI two days later revealed a calf strain.

The calf strain is believed to be a minor one, and Wembanyama is expected to miss around three weeks of action.

A minor calf strain includes a few torn muscle fibers with mild pain. The Spurs are obviously using an abundance of caution with their franchise cornerstone, particularly considering he missed 36 games last season.

Here is a look at the Spurs’ schedule around the time that Wemby is expected to be back.

  • Wednesday, Dec. 3: San Antonio Spurs at Orlando Magic
  • Friday, Dec. 5: San Antonio Spurs at Cleveland Cavaliers
  • Monday, Dec. 8: San Antonio Spurs at New Orleans Pelicans
  • Wednesday, Dec. 17: Washington Wizards at San Antonio Spurs

🏥 How long will Victor Wembanyama be out for?

Calf strains have become one of the most common injuries in the NBA. It is an injury that typically only takes players weeks to recover from.

That said, playing through a calf strain can drastically increase the risk of a more serious injury. For instance, Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton was officially diagnosed with a calf strain following Game 5 of this past season's NBA Finals. Haliburton played through the injury, and in Game 7 he tore his right Achilles. He will miss the entire 2025-26 season.

Obviously, the Spurs are going to make sure Wembanyama is fully healthy before bringing him back, especially considering we are early in the regular season.

The Spurs know too well what life looks like without their star player, as Wembanyama missed the final few months of last season with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder.

🏀 Victor Wembanyama odds

Wemby now has long-shot NBA MVP odds due to the injury, as he is now +15000.

The French superstar had +700 MVP odds just prior to the injury. Only Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luka Doncic, and Nikola Jokic had better odds.

Wembanyama had been a -250 favorite to win NBA Defensive Player of the Year prior to the injury, but is now +350. Oklahoma City’s Chet Holmgren (+135) is now the favorite.

To be eligible for postseason NBA awards, a player must play in at least 65 games during the regular season. The fear that Wembanyama will ultimately miss 17 games or more this season is the biggest reason he is falling on awards odds boards.
