After a 26-point win to open Olympic women's basketball play for the Americans - the overwhelming favorite by the women's Olympic basketball odds - Team USA is a 23.5-point favorite against Belgium ahead of their matchup on Thursday at 3 p.m. ET.

Our Belgium vs. USA prediction expects more of the same from the U.S., which owns an all-time record of 71-3 in the Olympics with 56 consecutive wins.

This year's roster is led by A'ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart, who lead the WNBA championship odds favorites and were both dominant in Monday's 102-76 win over Japan.

Belgium vs. USA predictions for Thursday

  • USA -6.5 1Q (-110) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • Belgium Under 70.5 points (-110) ⭐⭐⭐
  • Chelsea Gray Over 7.5 assists (-120) ⭐⭐⭐

Prediction: USA -6.5 1Q ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The spread for this game makes sense considering the Americans have outscored opponents by nearly 30 points per game over the last seven Olympics.

Yet I'd rather bet on a fast start for the USA than risk a possible late-game backdoor cover.

The U.S. exploited its size advantage inside against Japan, which didn't feature anyone over six feet. Belgium is a little better equipped with Emma Meesseman (6-4) and Kyara Linskens (6-4), but the Americans still tower over this group with a deep stable of elite scoring bigs.

Team USA outscored Japan by seven points in the first quarter after a 13-point advantage to open its final exhibition game against Germany. I'm expecting a similar result on Thursday.

Odds: -110 | Implied probability: 52.38%

Prediction: Belgium Under 70.5 points ⭐⭐⭐

I'm a little less bullish on this pick given that Japan scored 75 points in that blowout loss on Monday. Still, I'd be surprised if Belgium reaches that mark on Thursday.

This group shot 45.9% from the floor against Germany, with Meeseeman (25 points), Julie Vanloo (18) and Linskens (12) all shooting 50% or better, and Belgium still scored just 69 points in its opener. I don't see how that improves against an elite defensive team like the USA.

Odds: -110 | Implied probability: 52.38%

Prediction: Chelsea Gray Over 7.5 assists ⭐⭐⭐

Most of our best sportsbooks aren't even offering an assists prop on Gray, who finished with 13 of her team's 34 assists in Monday's opener. So I'd highly recommend betting the Over wherever it's offered.

Gray only played 20 minutes against Japan but finished with 13 assists - one shy of the Team USA record. She had 11 dimes by halftime, and her final helper of the day came off a no-look pass in typical "Point Gawd" fashion:

I don't necessarily expect Gray to finish with 13 assists again, but after that performance, I don't suspect she'll be limited to 20 minutes, either.

Odds: -120 | Implied probability: 54.55%
