Brunson is looking to win the award for the second straight season, while Edwards aims to claim the hardware for the first time after finishing a distant third in voting last year. Luka Doncic (+1200), Nikola Jokic (+1300), and Kevin Durant (+1700) round out the top five players with the shortest odds.

Edwards certainly has the talent and name recognition to win this award. But most importantly, he'll have the opportunity to score a lot in clutch time, which the league defines as "the final five minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime when the score is within five points."
The three-time All-Star led the NBA last season in points, shots, 3-point attempts, and 3-point makes in clutch time. He finished third in clutch time field-goal makes behind Jokic and Brunson, the latter of whom won the award. The player who led the league in clutch time made shots has won NBA Clutch Player of the Year all three seasons the award has been in existence.
Minnesota will continue to put the ball in Edwards' hands in close games, so he'll have plenty of opportunities to make clutch time baskets. If he leads the league in clutch time makes this year, history says the award will be his.
It feels like Edwards is due to win some form of hardware soon as he continues his rise to superstardom.

Like Edwards, Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young is the bona fide closer for his team, so he'll have the chance to make some highlights in clutch time.
Young ranked fifth last season in clutch time field-goal attempts, but he shot just 36.4% from the field on those opportunities. He'll certainly have to hit more of those late shots in order to win NBA Clutch Player of the Year, or at least lead the league in clutch time threes, which certainly is achievable for Young.
Atlanta now has a well-constructed roster built to complement Young, particularly on the defensive end where he struggles. The Hawks should be in plenty of close games and fighting for a top-four seed in the Eastern Conference. It's up to him to make those clutch shots at a good clip to be in the running for the award, but his +1800 odds make him an enticing target.
