In a battle between two teams eliminated from the WNBA championship odds playoff picture, the Chicago Sky (9-26) will host the Connecticut Sun (8-27) on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET (CBS Network) at Wintrust Arena.

With Angel Reese back in the fold, Chicago is coming off a signature upset over the New York Liberty. That’s why the Sky are favored for just the second time this season as 2.5-point favorites - and deservedly so, as I break down in my Sun vs. Sky prediction.

The Sky opened as a 2.5-point favorite against the Sun. It’s tough to know where this line will move, as Chicago hasn’t been a betting favorite in a game since July 9, when it earned an 87-76 win over the Dallas Wings to cover a 1.5-point spread.

It might seem questionable to lay the points with the Sky, who have only been favored one other time this season. But that’s how much of an impact Reese has had since returning to the lineup.

Chicago has covered the spread in back-to-back games, including an outright win over the Liberty, since Reese returned to action. Before that, the Sky were 1-6 overall (and against the spread) in August while she was sidelined.

Reese’s statistical impact is easy to see, as she’s recorded 40 points and 17 rebounds in her two games back. She also opens things up for her teammates, which is why Kamilla Cardoso recorded 22 points and 15 rebounds against New York.

The Sun have some promising young pieces, but it’s in their best interest to lose as many games as possible to improve their chances in the draft lottery. The Sky have no such motivation, as they owe their first-round pick to the Minnesota Lynx.

I have no interest in paying an expensive moneyline value, but a $10 bet on this 2.5-point spread provides a nice $9.09 profit at BetMGM.

🔥 Michaela Onyenwere first basket scorer (+1100) ⭐⭐

When player prop markets become widely available on Saturday morning, I’m interested in the double-double odds for Reese. Betano offers a -143 value for her to record a double-double, and I’d be willing to play that prop up to -150 or better.

However, for those without that market, I'd suggest a flier at these 11/1 odds - a $110 profit on a $10 bet - on Chicago’s Michaela Onyenwere scoring the first basket of the game. She was responsible for the Sky’s first basket on Thursday. Chicago also won the tipoff the last time it faced Connecticut, so there is some value in backing a player from the home team in this market.
