Liberty vs. Dream Prediction, WNBA Betting Odds & Expert Picks: Aug. 23

The Atlanta Dream host the New York Liberty Saturday, and Atlanta is a short home betting favorite needing to cover a 2-point line.

My Liberty vs. Dream prediction sets the stage for a matinee matchup at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday at Gateway Center Arena in Atlanta (CBS).

The Dream are coming off a home win over the WNBA championship odds favorites, earning a 75-73 victory over the Minnesota Lynx on Thursday. Now, they have a chance to knock off the defending champs as 2-point betting favorites on the spread.

For this WNBA prediction, I’m backing the home team and Brionna Jones’ rebounds prop.

📈 Liberty vs. Dream betting odds analysis

Atlanta opened as a 2.5-point betting favorite, so the market is banking on a bounce-back effort after New York dropped a stunner to the Chicago Sky on Thursday. I’d be surprised if this line moved much further, as the Liberty have fallen to fourth in the league by dropping three of their last four games.

Dream ML (-135) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Liberty have demonstrated their vulnerability when playing without one of their top-three players. They are 5-8 since Breanna Stewart went down with an injury after losing five games without Jonquel Jones earlier in the year.

With Stewart still sidelined, New York simply isn’t on the same level as the elite teams. That grouping includes the Dream, who are second in the league with a 23-13 overall record. They are second in the league with a plus-7.2 net rating, but they actually lead the league with a plus-13.2 mark in August.

The Dream have played like a WNBA championship contender, and it’s a crime that Karl Smesko isn’t getting more Coach of the Year buzz. The Liberty haven’t been on that level.

DraftKings offers the best value for Atlanta’s moneyline odds, with a -135 price tag providing a $7.41 profit on a $10 bet.

💰 Best Liberty vs. Dream player prop bet

⬆️ Brionna Jones Over 5.5 rebounds (-120) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Brionna Jones has failed to clear this rebound line in back-to-back games, but I expect that to change on Saturday. New York’s five-out system offers a solid chance for opposing teams to clean up the defensive glass, which is why Jones grabbed seven boards in a previous matchup.

Jones has averaged 7.2 rebounds per game this season, with that mark increasing since Brittney Griner left the starting lineup. A $10 bet nets a $8.33 profit at these odds.

❓Liberty vs. Dream FAQs

Who is the favorite to win Liberty vs. Dream?

The Dream are 2-point favorites to defeat the Liberty on Saturday.

How do WNBA spread odds work?

When betting on the WNBA, the favorite needs to win by a certain number of points to cover the "point spread" - also known as the betting line. Conversely, the underdog needs to lose by fewer than the points displayed in the spread or win outright to cash. For example, a 3-point favorite would need to win by 4 or more points to reward bettors.

How do WNBA moneyline odds work?

When betting on the WNBA, the underdog will have the "longer" odds and is typically priced at "plus-money" odds that indicate the profit on a $100 bet. For example, a team with +150 odds would turn a $100 bet into a $150 profit - or a $10 bet into a $15 profit - according to our odds converter.
