William Byron, Kyle Larson, and Denny Hamlin lead the favorites by the NASCAR Cup Series championship odds after the first eight races of the 2024 season.

Kyle Larson and William Byron were the clear favorites across our best sportsbooks to win the Cup Series championship entering the 2024 season. Sure enough, those two remain atop the betting odds after the first eight races, but a familiar name as joined them atop the oddsboard.

Denny Hamlin has emerged as a co-favorite to win his first-ever NASCAR championship after winning two of the last four races and leading 66 laps at Martinsville Speedway last Sunday. Byron won that race, and he now paces the field with three checkered flags and is getting the shortest title odds at four of five best sports betting sites.

Those two are the only drivers with multiple wins this season, though that could change Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway, where Larson is the consensus favorite to score his second victory of the year. He's also led the most laps (454) and ranks first in the NASCAR Cup Series standings ahead of this weekend's AutoTrader EchoPark Automotive 400.

Here is our updated look at the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Championship odds (via the best sports betting apps) and our top picks among the field.

Favorites to win NASCAR Cup Series Championship

William Byron (+525 via BetMGM)

Nobody has won more often or more impressively than Byron, whose win at Martinsville on Sunday was his third of the season - already half his six-win total from 2023 in 29 fewer races.

At just 26, Byron has already established himself as perhaps the premier driver in the field, and he's among the betting favorites for every race. That remains the case on short tracks, superspeedways, and even road courses, as he's picked up one win apiece on each of those types of tracks.

We said last week that Byron's +575 odds at BetMGM might be the best we see all season. His price is even shorter now after another win, and I don't expect that to reverse course before the NASCAR playoffs.

Denny Hamlin (+550 via FanDuel)

If you were to hold the playoffs right now, there's a pretty good chance Hamlin would win the first Cup Series championship of his nearly two-decade career at NASCAR's highest level.

The No. 11 has secured two of the last four races and entered this past Sunday as the favorite to win at Martinsville. Even though he finished just outside the top 10, it's still been an epic run for the NASCAR veteran, whose car and pit crew are both among the best in the field through the first two months of the season.

While Hamlin's only top-five results have come in those two wins, he's been in contention just about every week, and his team seems to be firing on all cylinders. Watch out.

Kyle Larson (+550 via DraftKings)

While Larson finds himself as the "third" choice among the three favorites - at least by consensus odds - the preseason favorite remains a threat every time he hits the track after a second-place finish in 2023.

The 2021 champion has already recorded one dominant win at Las Vegas, and he's posted the overall most laps led (454) of any driver in the field through the first eight races. He was one of just two drivers to lead more than 1,000 laps in 2023 (Byron was the other), and he leads the NASCAR Cup Series standings after top-five finishes at Richmond and Martinsville.

Larson has been the fastest driver in the field since breaking onto the scene with 10 wins and his first Cup Series title in 2021. Anything can happen in the playoff era, but you can expect Larson to be among the final drivers in the field.

Ty Gibbs (+1600 via Caesars)

We've been banging the drum on Gibbs' long-shot odds all season long, including when he was dealing at 28/1 way back in February. His price has been slashed since then, but these odds at Caesars are still a relative bargain for arguably the best young driver in the field.

Gibbs has proven to be one of the circuit's best after only two seasons in the Cup series, with three top-five finishes and five top-10s through the first eight races of the campaign. He's also led the fourth-most laps (195) and has finished in the top three twice over his last five races - both tying his career best.

The 2023 Rookie of the Year is closing in on his first win, and it feels inevitable that Gibbs - the grandson of Joe Gibbs - will win a Cup Series trophy at some point in his career. With the way he's racing thus far, I wouldn't be shocked if that comes ahead of schedule.

NASCAR Cup Series Championship odds over time

We haven't seen much change across our best sportsbooks through the first eight weeks with William Byron, Denny Hamlin, and Kyle Larson comfortably slotting into the top three.

The 2023 winner Ryan Blaney has fallen back to the middle of the pack after opening with +750 odds, while Christopher Bell and Martin Truex Jr. round out the top five just ahead of the reigning champion. The odds for Youngsters Chase Elliott (28), Tyler Reddick (28), and Ty Gibbs (21) have also been moving after strong starts to the season.

How to bet on NASCAR Cup Series Championship

While there is no dominant driver in the NASCAR field as there once was, preseason favorites Kyle Larson and William Byron have established themselves as the top two competitors in the overall field and are among the favorites in just about every race. Denny Hamlin has entered the mix, too, after two wins in the last four weeks.

Betting on any of those drivers isn't a bad way to invest in the season, with all three looking likely to be among the final cars in the playoff field. If you're looking for a way to fade those leaders, you might find better value on a race-to-race basis - like when Daniel Suarez won in Atlanta with odds as high as 45/1.

That said, NASCAR's playoff format adds volatility to the overall field, so we recommend picking off relative values like Ryan Blaney (+1200), Joey Logano (+1600), and Ty Gibbs (+1600), who all have the makeup and team to compete with a bigger payoff than the top three.
