📜 Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua: How the fight came to be
Paul was initially set to face WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis in November until legal issues for the latter led to a cancellation.
There had already been rumblings of Paul and Joshua meeting up, and fight negotiations kicked into another gear once the Davis arrangement fell through. It took some time to iron out the details, but the tilt was finally announced on Nov. 17, with Netflix as the platform.
"When I beat Anthony Joshua, every doubt disappears, and no one can deny me the opportunity to fight for a world title," Paul said in a statement shortly after the fight was made official, adding that on Dec. 19 the "torch gets passed and Britain's Goliath gets put to sleep."
Meanwhile, Joshua said he's about to "break the internet over Jake Paul's face."
How much are Jake Paul and Joshua Anthony getting paid? The fight comes with a whopping $267-million purse.
Joshua is the much more established fighter as the two-time WBO, IBF, and WBA heavyweight champion. He may be aging somewhat now at 36 years old, but he still packs plenty of power, and it'll be the first time Paul has faced an active former champion.
