The Saskatchewan Roughriders hold the third-shortest Grey Cup odds as they host the BC Lions tonight at 7 p.m. ET (TSN, CTV, CBSSN) from Mosaic Stadium in Regina. With Nathan Rourke and Trevor Harris both unlikely to play, our Lions vs. Roughriders prediction backs these defenses to keep the score low.

Although both Rourke (core) and Trevor Harris (head/illness) are listed as questionable for this matchup, neither is expected to take the field. That means a battle of former CFL starters, with Jeremiah Masoli under center for BC and Jake Maier starting for Saskatchewan.

While both of these QBs have logged extensive starting experience, neither is going to move the needle much when it comes to winning this game. But Maier looks like the better option after Masoli threw two interceptions while leading the Lions to just 14 points last week against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The Riders can also lean on a productive run game, with A.J. Ouellette leading the way. I have Saskatchewan winning 20-17.

It's been a tough go for Lions fans after Rourke appeared to be back to his 2022 form during the season opener, but a Week 2 injury has derailed the team's season. Between an injured Rourke and Masoli at QB, BC is putting up just 21.7 points per game. Its rushing attack is also one of the league's worst, with the team averaging the third-fewest rushing yards per game (85.3).

For the undefeated Roughriders, injuries have soured their hot start heading into Week 4. While this offense is putting up the most points per game in the West (32.7), it's down several key starters. Not only is Harris out, but both Shawn Bane Jr. (knee) and Samuel Emilus (foot) won't be taking the field.

Though the team still boasts a strong trio in KeeSean Johnson, Dohnte Meyers, and Kian Schaffer-Baker, having Maier throw to them will certainly impact their effectiveness. The former Calgary Stampeders starting QB led his previous team to more than 25 points just six times last season, and he threw 29 interceptions in the previous two campaigns.

There's a chance this could be a rainy game, too, which favors the Under, with the Roughriders even more likely to lean on their ground game to eat clock and control the ball. Saskatchewan is third in the league in rushing yards per game (122) thanks to the play of Ouellette, aka Thor, who is in for a thunderous performance against this struggling Lions run defense.

This game total is far too high given the circumstances of this matchup.

🌾 A.J. Ouellette Over 72.5 rushing yards ⭐⭐⭐⭐

📊 Best odds: -115 via DraftKings ($10 pays $8.70)

After missing a good chunk of his first season in Saskatchewan last year, Ouellette is healthy and rumbling. The former MAC star is second in the CFL in rushing yards (208) and has the highest average per carry of any player with 20-plus carries (6.3).

Ouellette has gone over 90 yards in back-to-back weeks and can punish a Lions defense that's allowing the third-most rushing yards per game in the CFL (124.7). Given Ouellette's recent play, I'd take the Over on his rushing yards up to 78.5.
