The Grey Cup odds favorite Montreal Alouettes aim to stay undefeated as they head to Hamilton Stadium to take on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET (TSN/RDS, CFL+). Despite Montreal QB Davis Alexander being listed as questionable, our Alouettes vs. Tiger-Cats prediction still expects a high-scoring game in the Hammer.

With Alexander not practicing all week, his questionable designation for the game feels overly hopeful. Look for McLeod Bethel-Thompson to get the start under center, and Montreal boasts the talent to stay undefeated, even with the backup playing.

Bethel-Thompson is among the most decorated QBs in the CFL after winning the Grey Cup for the Toronto Argonauts just three years ago. And he was more than serviceable for the Edmonton Elks last year. Given the Tiger-Cats' defensive woes, Bethel-Thompson and this offense should be able to score. I have Montreal taking this 30-20.

If Alexander was expected to start in this game, the game total would likely be closer to 51.5. Hamilton's defense hasn't improved at all this season after last year's horrific showing. The Tiger-Cats are allowing the second-most points per game (33) and yards per game (423) this season, which includes giving up the most rushing yards (145.5).

Montreal head coach Jason Maas will likely give Travis Theis a heavy dose of work on the ground to take advantage, as starting running back Sean Thomas-Erlington is dealing with a knee injury. Meanwhile, the Alouettes' passing attack can thrive even without Alexander thanks to a deep receiver corps. And Bethel-Thompson is still competent at 36 years old. He finished second in the league in touchdown passes last season (24).

The only player with more TD passes last year? The ageless Bo Levi Mitchell (32). While Montreal boasts the best defense in the East, Hamilton is talented enough to score in the 20s. The Tiger-Cats are putting up 24.5 points per game and lead the league in passing yards per game (311.5). This Over is playable up to 50.5.

Tyson Philpot looks like his old self after a somewhat slow start to this season, and after tearing it up in the first nine games before his injury last year. The Canadian is coming off an eight-reception, 96-yard game against the Elks when he found the end zone. He should be able to do similar damage against an equally bad defense.

The University of Calgary product is second in the league in targets (25) and receptions (17), and his volume shouldn't decrease much even with Bethel-Thompson playing. Philpot is tied for first in the league in TD receptions (two) and will get the opportunity to score again tonight.
