Yankees vs. Cardinals Predictions, Odds & Best Bets: Back St. Louis to Even Series

The two franchises with the most World Series titles continue their interleague series as the St. Louis Cardinals host the New York Yankees at Busch Stadium tonight (7:15 p.m. ET, FOX). We break down the middle game of this three-game set with our Yankees vs. Cardinals predictions.
New York is a -150 moneyline favorite at our best sports betting sites after taking care of business in yesterday’s series opener. But our Yankees vs. Cardinals best bets expect St. Louis to even the series behind another strong start from Sonny Gray.

New York has lost each of its last three road series, and is 5-8 away from home since the All-Star break. A big reason for that has been subpar pitching, and with Max Fried no longer looking like the ace he was in the first half, I am backing St. Louis as home underdogs with my Yankees vs. Cardinals prediction.
Fried has so far followed up a 5.54 ERA from June with a 7.20 ERA through two August starts. He has not recorded an out in the sixth inning in four of his previous six starts, and a similarly short outing tonight would play right into St. Louis’ hands.
This Yankees vs. Cardinals best bet is also a fade of New York’s offense, which has scored three or fewer runs in seven of its last 12 games. A big day offensively may be hard to come by against former Yankee Sonny Gray, who has held New York’s current hitters to a combined .221/.307/.307 slash line.
The Cardinals were as high as +136 at FanDuel yesterday. And with them receiving 46% of the moneyline wagers, I am backing them at +125 at BetMGM before their price drops any further across our top sports betting sites.

Gray has turned in two of his best starts of the season in his last two outings, and I'm backing the Under on his earned runs as my best Yankees vs. Cardinals player prop given his historical success against New York.
Gray has allowed just two earned runs with a 15 to 2 stirkeout to walk ratio over 14 innings spanning his last two starts. That feat is even more impressive when considering those starts were against two of the top-three scoring teams in the National League, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs.
Over the last 30 days, New York ranks a poor 29th in BABIP and 26th in OPS against right-handed pitchers in road games. While these odds may be steep, they are still a better value than the -165 price at other best sportsbooks, and serve as a great complement to St. Louis’ plus-money odds to win straight up.
