Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s batting average sat at .325 against heat. Fernando Tatis slugged .530. Ketel Marte's expected slugging was at .591, and on it goes.

They need to do enough to get Skenes' pitch count up while keeping him from suffocating their offense, and then move on to the bullpen.

Bobby Witt Jr. has dazzled throughout this tournament with his five-tool brilliance, which includes a .294 batting average. Now he gets to face a starting pitcher who leans heavily on an underwhelming fastball.

The success Severino achieves rests largely with a lethal sweeper, which opponents batted .186 against last year, per Baseball Savant. He tunnels that with his fastball, but the latter pitch isn't nearly as imposing on its own, with batters producing a .484 expected slugging against.

Witt blistered four-seamers last year while slugging .529 against that pitch. He's skilled enough to eliminate the sweeper and lock in on a pitch that offers a better opportunity to do damage.

Severino suppressed home runs well last season while giving up just 16, down from 23 in each of the past two campaigns. So as usual, approach this home run play with a cautious sprinkle.

Similar to Witt though, Schwarber is well-positioned to be among those who can capitalize on Severino's fastball when he gets one to whack. Schwarber, the powerful lefty who hit 33 home runs against righties last season, crushed four-seamers while finishing with a .775 slugging percentage against that pitch.

He's supplying plenty of power thus far in the tournament too with his .958 OPS.

We're getting notable negative correlation here while including Witt notching at least two bases alongside the Dominican Republic prevailing and Luis Severino tallying four-plus strikeouts.

The first two scenarios (Witt staying hot in a loss) are certainly in play, as we're essentially banking on a behemoth Dominican offense to outpower the United States. That's a challenge against Skenes, but an imposing offense that's scored a mammoth 51 runs across five games is beyond capable.

The risk here lies with Severino, who posted a lowly 6.9 K/9 in MLB last year. But the strikeout bar is set low enough to mitigate those worries. He tallied five punchouts during his other WBC start thus far, which came with the lower pitch restriction.

I continue to be conservative with my bankroll management amid the fun yet often difficult to forecast WBC, with its pitch limits and hitters still finding their form in mid March.

The unpredictability is perhaps even higher in this game featuring two evenly matched teams with a laughable amount of thump at the plate. However, I still believe in the Dominicans and their ability to weather the Skenes storm, especially given how much they've been mashing so far with 14 home runs.

That's why a mild Dominican upset is the only full-unit play. Going further than that is tough elsewhere, particularly when it comes to the total due to Skenes' presence.
