Los Angeles may be clinging to a one-game lead in the NL West and still be among the top World Series odds contenders, but the Dodgers have been a below-average baseball team for the last two months. Los Angeles is 23-31 since July 4, which is the third-worst record in the NL and only 3.5 games better than Colorado in that span. That's why I'm taking a flier on the road underdogs with my Rockies vs. Dodgers best bet.

Los Angeles has been coming up with the most dumbfounding ways to lose lately. Saturday’s defeat to the Baltimore Orioles made them just the ninth team in the expansion era to win a game after being no-hit through at least 8 2/3 innings. That loss was also the Dodgers’ seventh in their last eight contests, and it brought their losing streak against the Orioles and Pittsburgh Pirates (two last-place teams) to five, which they snapped yesterday.

Colorado is the only MLB team with fewer than 22 road wins this season. But Los Angeles has failed to cover the run line in eight of its last nine games, and the squad is an uninspiring eight games over .500 against teams with a losing record this season.

The Rockies are 2-8 in their 10 meetings with the Dodgers, so their 29.67% implied probability at the high end of the market to pull off the upset is encouraging through these odds from FanDuel. If they come through, my winning $10 wager would net $26 in profit.

Chase Dollander is likely to be the happiest person in the ballpark tonight to be playing away from Coors Field.

His 3.64 road ERA and .212 OBA across nine road starts are night-and-day compared to Dollander's 9.98 ERA and .337 OBA throughout 11 starts at home. And his 8.0 K/9 rate on the road compared to the hurler's 6.8 K/9 rate at Coors Field has me confident enough to back Dollander's strikeout Over with this best Rockies vs. Dodgers player prop bet.

It isn’t just Los Angeles’ win-loss record that's troubling since July 4. The Dodgers have struck out at the fifth-highest rate in the league since then, including a 23.8% strikeout rate against right-handed pitching.

Dollander has gone Over this projected total with five strikeouts in four of his last five starts, which followed a streak of seven consecutive outings with four or fewer punchouts. His increase in strikeout potential lately justifies this 57.45% implied probability that Dollander will cash my $10 wager and return $7.41 in profit on these -132 odds from FanDuel.
