Alonso was just shy of posting a career-best OPS+ last season, slashing .272/.347/.524 with 38 home runs and 126 RBI. It marked his strongest campaign since 2022, but he’ll still need to take another step forward with his new club to seriously challenge reigning MVP Aaron Judge. Judge outpaced him across the board - finishing with a higher batting average, more homers, superior OBP, SLG, and OPS, plus more stolen bases and fewer strikeouts.
Last year's numbers make Alonso’s MVP odds appealing on the surface, but excitement shouldn’t cloud the reality here. At best, Alonso for MVP is a small 0.25-unit flyer and nothing more.
Alonso is projected for a 33 home run season (.815 OPS) in 2026, and while that's a fantastic campaign in itself, it won't be enough for him to win the MVP. This bet hinges on whether or not you believe he'll have a massive jump with more protection hitting alongside Gunnar Henderson. Which may ultimately be the case, but tread lightly here.

The Orioles received a bump in their World Series odds after signing the slugger, jumping from +3000 to win the Commissioner's Trophy to +2200 at DraftKings. While this is a pretty strong bounce based off one signing, the Orioles still have a ton of work to do after finishing last in the AL East with 75 wins, ultimately missing the playoffs.
While the lineup is formidable, the rotation consisting of Grayson Rodriguez, Zach Eflin, Charlie Morton, Tomoyuki Sugano, and Dean Kremer doesn't quite strike fear in the opposition. The bullpen also had the sixth-worst ERA (4.57) in all of baseball. Improvements on the defensive side of the ball are needed before dropping any kind of money on this team to make the playoffs, let alone win the World Series.
While the +2200 odds are nice to look at, I'm personally more inclined to bet on the Philadelphia Phillies at +1100 - this team is in win-now mode and is coming back with one of the best home run hitters in baseball in Kyle Schwarber.
