Mariners vs. Astros Prediction, Odds & Expert Picks: MLB Best Bets for Tonight Sept. 19

Last Updated: September 19, 2025 1:47 PM EDT • 5 minute read X Social Google News Link

The Seattle Mariners (84-69) and Houston Astros (84-69) begin a crucial weekend series as I make my Mariners vs. Astros prediction for the opener at 8:10 p.m. ET on Friday at Daikin Park in Houston.
These two teams are tied at the top of the American League West division entering the final days of the regular season. The Astros have won the AL West in seven of the past eight years, while the Mariners are looking for their first division crown since 2001.
Houston is -110 to win Friday’s opener, which is a line worth taking as part of tonight’s MLB picks.

🚀 Astros to win (-110) ⭐⭐⭐

I’ll believe the Astros will relinquish their AL West crown when they actually do it. This weekend could be a good opportunity for Houston to regain control of the division entering the final week of the regular season.
To be honest, this is more of a bet on Astros pitcher Hunter Brown in Friday’s series opener than anything else. Brown is 12-7 with a 2.27 ERA in 29 starts this season. He hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in a start since July 20.
The Mariners are 9-1 over their last 10 games and have been much better offensively on the road than at home. But facing Brown is a different challenge, which is why I’ll side with Houston for Game 1 of this pivotal series.

⬆️ Hunter Brown Over 17.5 outs (-130) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Astros couldn’t ask to be in a better position, handing the ball to their best pitcher on Friday night of a series that could decide the division. I expect them to trust Hunter Brown to get as many outs as possible, ensuring their bullpen is good to go for the rest of the weekend.
Brown has recorded at least 18 outs in six straight starts and seven of his past eight games since Aug. 1. This line is as high as -145 at BetMGM, meaning a -130 value ($7.69 profit on a $10 bet) is a reasonable discount.

The Astros began with -110 odds to win, but with 60% of wagers coming on their side, it wouldn’t be surprising to see this line move further in their direction. The total started at 7.5, though 62% of bets have come in on the Under.

How do baseball odds work?
When betting on MLB, the run line shows how many runs the favorite needs to win by in order to cash the bet. For example, a favorite of -1.5 must win by two or more runs to cover the run line, while an underdog at +1.5 must win outright or lose by one run to cover the run line.
Moneyline odds represent the payout for picking the outright winner (+200 means a $100 bet wins $200, while -200 means a $200 bet wins $100). Over/Unders let you wager on whether the combined total of runs will be higher or lower than the set number.
