The Washington Nationals have been floundering lately, and they would certainly welcome the return of their stud outfielder Dylan Crews.
Below, we'll look at when Crews will be back in the Nationals' lineup. This injury update will deliver all of the latest information on how long Crews will be out, and we will look at a potential return date.
🚑 When will Dylan Crews return and be back with Nationals?
Crews has been out since May 20 with a strained left oblique. Oblique injuries are among the most difficult when it comes to delivering a recovery timeline. Severe strains can take up to two months to recover from.
The Nationals have been radio silent with updates regarding Crews’ injury, so we can surmise that this is a longer recovery process. MLB teams often use the first game after the All-Star break to reintroduce players who have been on the shelf. Washington’s opening game of the second half of the season is Friday, July 18 at Nationals Park against the San Diego Padres. If Crews were to return for that game, it would be almost exactly two months from the date of the injury.
Here is a look at the Nationals schedule around that time.
- Friday, July 18: San Diego Padres at Washington Nationals
- Saturday, July 19: San Diego Padres at Washington Nationals
- Sunday, July 20: San Diego Padres at Washington Nationals
- Monday, July 21: Cincinnati Reds at Washington Nationals
- Tuesday, July 22: Cincinnati Reds at Washington Nationals
- Wednesday, July 23: Cincinnati Reds at Washington Nationals
- Friday, July 25: Washington Nationals at Cincinnati Reds
⏳ How long will Dylan Crews be out for?
Crews has already been out of action for 28 days. The last report we had on Crews from the Nationals came on June 3, when they said that Crews had yet to resume swinging a bat. It will surely take Crews a few weeks to ramp back up for MLB action, so it’s safe to say we won’t see him back in a Nationals uniform until July.
Oblique injuries vary in recovery time. But for what it's worth, Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil suffered a minor-to-moderate oblique strain in spring training and was out for 43 days. If Crews were to follow a similar recovery timeline, he would be back for the Nationals in early July.
💰 Nationals betting
Crews is still available to bet on in the National League Rookie of the Year odds. He opened the season with the second-best odds to win the award while getting a +380 price. Only L.A. Dodgers pitcher Roki Sasaki (+225) was ahead of him on NL ROY oddsboards.
This injury has clearly hindered Crews’ chances of winning the award. Due mostly to the time he has already been out because of the injury, Crews is now +5000 to win NL ROY.
As for the Nationals, our best MLB betting sites show them with some of the longest World Series odds. Washington is +50000 to win it all.
