After last week’s sweep of the San Diego Padres (72-56), the Los Angeles Dodgers (73-55) enter another pivotal weekend series with a one-game lead in the National League West ahead of Friday’s opener at 9:40 p.m. ET in Petco Park as we make our Dodgers vs. Padres prediction.

I expect Los Angeles to maintain control of the division while winning as short -120 road favorites. I’m also backing Manny Machado in the player prop market to round out Friday’s Dodgers vs. Padres best bets.

As I make my Dodgers vs. Padres prediction, a small part of me wonders if giving San Diego hope leads to enjoyment for Los Angeles.

Last week’s weekend sweep helped the Dodgers pass the Padres in the NL West after briefly relinquishing the division lead. That came after San Diego was given two chances to eliminate Los Angeles in a postseason series last year.

Alright, maybe that’s just me. But my Dodgers vs. Padres best bet does show some value on Los Angeles as a short road favorite, thanks in large part to Blake Snell’s recent form.

Snell has tossed two straight shutouts after coming back in early August. He held the Padres to five hits across six innings last year.

Alternatively, San Diego starter Yu Darvish gave up four runs in as many frames to Los Angeles last Sunday. He’s posted a 5.97 ERA since making his season debut on July 7.

Although I’m banking on Los Angeles to win on Friday, San Diego star Manny Machado can still produce his moment for my best Dodgers vs. Padres player prop.
