Pete Alonso broke records with his light tower power this week, which is one of the reasons he's the main subject of my best home run predictions today.

Alonso became the New York Mets' all-time home run leader on Tuesday. His 253rd career blast saw him pass Darryl Strawberry and also elevated the hosts to a convincing win in the series opener. My home run bets today expect Alonso to punish Atlanta pitchers again in the rubber match.

It'd be an understatement to say Alonso is mashing lately. He's slashing .386/.408/.886 halfway through August, adding six homers in 11 games, including a record-breaking blast in the series opener against Atlanta.

The Polar Bear hasn't exactly punished the Braves this season.

He didn't hit his first home run against them until Tuesday, which was his eighth appearance against New York's bitter NL East rival. However, his success against tonight's starter, Bryce Elder, coupled with the pitcher's recent struggles, leads me to believe he'll play an important part in the rubber match.

Alonso is hitting .375 (3-for-8) versus Elder with one homer in his career. The latter has also given up home runs at a 66% clip over the last three starts and 10 in his previous 10 starts.
