Nick Kurtz is soaring above all challengers in one league as we look at the MLB Rookie of the Year odds, and there's an intriguing two-horse race in the other.

Kurtz, who's getting a whopping -10000 betting odds, has been clobbering baseballs consistently, and the behemoth Athletics first baseman has earned a perch high above the rest of the pack in the AL as a result.

There's a similar drop-off in the NL, though a battle is ongoing there between Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Isaac Collins (-115 betting odds) and Atlanta Braves catcher Drake Baldwin (+105 betting odds).

We're at the point where only an unfortunate injury would hold the mashing Kurtz back from cruising toward being named AL Rookie of the Year, and even that's questionable.

He was already on that trajectory before erupting for four homers in a single game in July, producing one of the best hitting performances in baseball history. The first baseman's OPS would sit among the league leaders if he had accumulated enough plate appearances to qualify.

Baldwin plays a premium defensive position as a catcher, and he's bringing impressive power when not behind the plate. But he's not selling out in that regard, as Baldwin is a well-rounded hitter capable of making consistent quality contact and spraying the ball to all fields.

It's not a coincidence that the profiles of the two leaders in this market sound similar. The margins are razor-thin in this race between Collins and Baldwin, and that will surely continue down the stretch.
