U.S. Open Expert Picks to Win 2024: Outright Predictions for Pinehurst No. 2

It's time for the third major of 2024, and Scottie Scheffler is once again the heavy betting favorite by the odds from our best golf betting sites as we make our U.S. Open expert picks to win outright at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina.

Not as though there was any doubt, Scottie Scheffler confirmed his status as the betting favorite by the 2024 U.S. Open odds by winning last week's Memorial Tournament. His fifth victory of the 2024 season made him the first to reach that number since 2016-17, and brought the reigning Masters champion to $24 million in earnings this year.

Pinehurst No. 2 in Moore County, N.C., hosts the U.S. Open for the first time since Martin Kaymer's 8-stroke victory 10 years ago. Rickie Fowler, Keegan Bradley, Jason Day, Brooks Koepka, and Adam Scott are among the 2014 contenders with at least a half-genuine shot a decade later. Rory McIlroy finished T-23 after going plus-6 at Pinehurst in 2014.

Below, we make our U.S. Open expert picks to win at Pinehurst No. 2 and claim 2024's third major championship.

2024 U.S. Open outright picks: Who'll win at Pinehurst?

Scottie Scheffler

We're at this point.

No U.S. Open betting card should be complete without at least a little something on Scheffler to win outright. His five victories this year have come within an eight-event stretch beginning with the Arnold Palmer Invitational in mid-March. His worst finish during that run was his T-8 result in the PGA Championship, during which he prepared for Round 2 while in a jail cell in Louisville, Ky.

So, we're showing a clear lack of originality and gumption, and starting our picks this week with the No. 1 player in the Official World Golf Ranking. Make fewer outright bets than you normally would this week, and add those units to Scheffler's outright ticket. Alternatively, the +333 outlier odds from BetMGM allow bettors to use Scheffler as a hedge against any other bets to win the U.S. Open.

These +333 odds would return a profit of $33.30 on a winning $10 bet, and those returns could be used to cover the losses on other outright picks as either a single- or multi-unit bet.

Best odds: +333 via BetMGM

Hideki Matsuyama

Matsuyama has had a relatively quiet season since his come-from-behind victory in the Genesis Invitational in mid-February. He tied for 38th in the Masters and for 35th in the PGA Championship, but he showed signs of his old ways during a T-8 finish in last week's Memorial Tournament.

The former Masters champ tied for eighth at Muirfield Village Golf Club while ranking seventh in the field with 1.54 strokes gained: tee-to-green for the week. He was sharp in approaching the green while gaining strokes on and around the putting surfaces. He was also one of the field's most accurate drivers, a necessity amid this week's staple U.S. Open conditions.

Matsuyama has at least some experience at Pinehurst No. 2, with a T-35 finish in 2014. We're also getting excellent value via these +5500 odds from FanDuel, with Caesars setting the market low with +3500 odds. That's a difference of $200 in profit on a winning $10 bet.

Best odds: +5500 via FanDuel
