Detroit Golf Club has drawn its strongest field yet for the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic. With defending champion Tony Finau tabbed as the betting favorite, read on for our top Rocket Mortgage Classic picks based on the odds from our best sports betting apps.
Tony Finau won the 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic by a five-stroke margin over Patrick Cantlay, Taylor Pendrith, and Cameron Young for his fourth career PGA Tour victory. He has claimed two more victories since and returns to defend his title while ranked 14th in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR). As such, it's not surprising to see him priced as the consensus betting favorite across our best sports betting sites.
In the final marquee PGA Tour event on this side of the Atlantic ahead of The Open Championship, Finau is joined by Rickie Fowler, Collin Morikawa, Max Homa, and Justin Thomas near the top of the oddsboard while competing for the $8.8 million purse in Detroit, MI. As usual ahead of a major, it's a good idea to double down on the golfer you're backing this week while their odds may remain high for the British Open.
Let's look at our best Rocket Mortgage Classic picks.

Rocket Mortgage Classic picks and predictions 2023
Vincent Norrman to be first-round leader (+10000 via BetMGM)
Norrman is +9000 to be the first-round leader at each of our best sportsbooks other than BetMGM's market-best +10000. In addition to ranking 40th on the PGA Tour in birdie-or-better percentage and 55th in Round 1 scoring average through 19 events this season, he ranks second among qualified golfers in this field in driving distance across his last 10 measured rounds.
Scoring conditions will be extremely easy at the Donald Ross-designed Detroit Golf Club this week, and Norrman is getting the benefit of a 7:07 a.m. ET tee time off the first tee. The course is reported to be quite soft and there's little defense to low scores at this venue. Wind gusts are expected to pick up into Thursday afternoon in Detroit. So someone from the morning wave will go low, and that number will last.
Collin Morikawa to win (+1600 via BetMGM)
Maybe, just maybe, this will be the week Morikawa puts it all together.
Once ranked as high as No. 2 in the OWGR, the two-time major champ enters this week at No. 20 off of a missed cut in last week's Travelers Championship. That disappointing performance followed a T-14 finish in the U.S. Open. I'm willing to overlook the missed cut as it was due to an uncharacteristically awful 1.36 strokes lost per round on approach, while he led the field in strokes gained: off-the-tee over his 36 holes.
Morikawa has still gained an average of 1.27 true strokes on approach across his last 20 measured rounds to rank second in this field. He also ranks first on the PGA Tour in proximity from 100-125 yards for the 2022-23 PGA Tour season while ranking 12th in good drive percentage.
Be sure to grab the elevated odds via BetMGM, with DraftKings and PointsBet offering odds of just +1400.
Davis Riley to win (+10000 via PointsBet)
Riley's lingering +10000 odds via PointsBet represent excellent long-shot value in this strong but top-heavy field for the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Caesars initially offered him at +10000 on Tuesday but dropped down to a market-low of +6000 as of Wednesday morning. Other books are offering odds of +8000 or +9000.
The 26-year-old American enters the week at No. 84 in the OWGR off a T-45 finish last week. The former top collegiate player won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with playing partner Nick Hardy in April. He lost in a playoff against Sam Burns in the 2022 Valspar Championship.
While Riley missed the cut in his first appearance in this event last year, I like his form entering his second go-around. Riley is tied for 14th on Tour in proximity from 100-125 yards this season. He drove for show and putted for the dough of a T-45 finish in last week's elevated event while his irons and wedges were in disarray. I'll trust in a rebound performance in the approach game and stick with one of the longer hitters in this field while he's riding a hot putter.
