My Genesis Invitational power rankings seek out the proper profit opportunities with plus-money prop bets and long-shot outright picks for my top 10 golfers in this week's 72-man field.

🥇 Rory McIlroy

Best odds to win: +1400
Best Genesis Invitational finish: T-4 (2019)
Bet to make: Top 5 finish

Why I'm Rory McIlroy: The best driver on the PGA Tour can show that off at Riviera after a Sunday round of 64 at Pebble Beach capped a T-14 finish in his season debut

🥈 Scottie Scheffler

Best odds to win: +335
Best Genesis Invitational finish: T-7 (2022)
Bet to make: Top North American

Why I'm betting Scottie Scheffler: Shot Sunday's round of the day at Pebble Beach but has struggled on approach shots from 175-200 yards this season

🥉 Hideki Matsuyama

Best odds to win: +2800
Best Genesis Invitational finish: Win (2024)
Bet to make: Top Rest of World

Why I'm betting Hideki Matsuyama: The defending tournament champion at Riviera shook off his heartbreak from the WM Phoenix Open with a T-8 finish last week while continue to ride a red-hot putter

4️⃣ Patrick Cantlay

Best odds to win: +2700
Best Genesis Invitational finish: 3 (2023)
Bet to make: Top 10 finish

Why I'm betting Patrick Cantlay: He's second on the PGA Tour in proximity to the pin on approach shots from 175-200 yards and has three top-5 finishes at Riviera

5️⃣ Xander Schauffele

Best odds to win: +2100
Best Genesis Invitational finish: T-4 (2024)
Bet to make: Top 10 after Round 1

Why I'm betting Xander Schauffele: Another of the top California natives in the field with a strong course history at Riviera but has struggled with approach shots from this week's key distance

6️⃣ Cameron Young

Best odds to win: +3500
Best Genesis Invitational finish: T-2 (2022)
Bet to make: Top 5 finish

Why I'm betting Cameron Young: Through 21 such shots, ranks 14th on Tour in proximity on approaches from 175-200 yards and has maintained strong stats in key metrics despite middling finishes so far this year

7️⃣ Tommy Fleetwood

Best odds to win: +2200
Best Genesis Invitational finish: T-10 (2024)
Bet to make: Top English

Why I'm betting Tommy Fleetwood: Started his PGA Tour season with a T-4 finish last week while excelling on and around the greens; his approach game remained sharp from his fall swing on the DP World Tour

8️⃣ Min Woo Lee

Best odds to win: +4500
Best Genesis Invitational finish: Cut (2022)
Bet to make: Top 20 finish

Why I'm betting Min Woo Lee: Missed the cut in his only appearance at Riviera to date, but was the co-runner-up amid miserable conditions last week thanks to expert play off the tee and on the greens

9️⃣ Viktor Hovland

Best odds to win: +4200
Best Genesis Invitational finish: T-4 (2022)
Bet to make: Top Continental European

Why I'm betting Viktor Hovland: An expert ball striker who ranks fifth in proximity from 175-200 yards but has struggled around the greens in his career at Riviera (and elsewhere)

🔟 Max Homa

Best odds to win: +8000
Best Genesis Invitational finish: Win (2021)
Bet to make: Top 30 finish

Why I'm betting Max Homa: One of my first Genesis Invitational picks, the Burbank, Calif., native has won here before, and a return could spark a turnaround amid horrible form for nearly two years

💡 How I'm betting The Genesis Invitational

The Genesis Invitational returns to Riviera Country Club this year after moving to Torrey Pines a year ago due to wildfires in the Los Angeles area. As such, 2025 tournament stats can be ignored and have been in the above best tournament finishes.

Riviera Country Club is a favorite of many PGA Tour pros. It's long for a par 71 at 7,383 yards with tight and windy fairways. The course had typically favored bombers off the tee for a long time but there's been a recent shift more toward accuracy off the tee with the rough grown out and being more penal.

The greens are relatively small and play firm and fast, with the added difficulty of the Poa annua greens being bumpier and more unpredictable.

I value course history at Riviera as much as anywhere on the PGA Tour, and will favor the many California-born golfers int he field. As is often the case, strokes gained: approach is the most important stat this week, and we're also heavily weighing proximity on approach shots from 175-200. I'll slightly favor accuracy over distance off the tee while trusting the top long iron ball-strikers.

Course stats

Here are the course stats for Riviera Country Club:

Riviera Country Club
Par 71
Yardage 7,383
Greens Poa annua
Architect George C. Thomas Jr.
Comparable courses Nine Bridges, Augusta National Golf Course

Key stats

Here are the key stats I use to handicap The Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club, and the weight I give to each stat:

  • Strokes gained: approach (35%)
  • Proximity from 175-200 yards (20%)
  • Strokes gained: around-the-green (20%)
  • Strokes gained: off-the-tee (15%)
  • Bogey avoidance (10%)

🧮 Genesis Invitational bankroll management

Properly managing your bankroll is the most crucial aspect of sports betting, regardless of the sport or your preferred bet types. Our betting calculators can help you decide how much to commit to each wager, and we advise tracking your deposits, withdrawals, and bets.

Here is my split for my Genesis Invitational card. I'm not as heavily invested in Scottie Scheffler this week due to his lackluster history at Riviera Country Club.

Bet type % of tournament bankroll Amount ($100 tournament bankroll)
Outright bets (Scottie Scheffler) 10% $10 (to win $33.50)
Outright bets (other golfers) 10% $10
Long-shot outrights 10% $10
Prop bets 70% $70
