Injuries over the past month have so ravaged USC’s backfield that the Trojans need to rely on walk-on redshirt freshman King Miller to carry the load. Well, all hail the King, as he’s rumbled for 567 yards in five starts. That includes a trio of 120-yard-plus efforts against Michigan, Nebraska, and Northwestern. He also fared well against Notre Dame (70 yards) and Iowa (83).

Michigan (12th), Notre Dame (13th) and Iowa (16th) rank among the FBS leaders in stopping the run. Oregon (21st) also boasts a solid front seven. But in two recent contests, Iowa’s Kamari Moulton (87 yards) and Wisconsin’s Gideon Ituka (85 yards) bulldozed the Ducks.

Jayden Maiava has been outstanding for USC, throwing for 2,868 yards (10th-most in FBS). Not only has the junior eclipsed 250 yards in eight of 10 games, but he’s topped 280 yards six times. There's one outlier though, and it’s a doozy: Three weeks ago at Nebraska, Maiava went 9-for-23 for 135 yards.

Nebraska boasts the country's third-best pass defense (134.6 yards per game). The No. 1-ranked secondary? Oregon (127.3 yards per game). Yes, the Ducks have only faced two quarterbacks who rank in the top 100 in FBS in passing yards: Indiana’s Francisco Mendoza (37th) and Rutgers’ Athan Kaliakmanis (15th). But Oregon held Mendoza to 215 yards, while Kaliakmanis registered just 79 yards at home.

USC has allowed 18 passing touchdowns this season, including at least one in all 10 games (even Missouri State registered one in the season opener). So there's zero doubt Oregon quarterback Dante Moore will add to his 21 passing TDs Saturday. And my money is on Moore to connect with tight end Kenyon Sadiq for a score.

Sadiq leads the Ducks with six receiving touchdowns, the most recent coming last week against Minnesota when he also established season highs in receptions (eight) and yards (96). Sadiq, a likely first-round NFL draft pick next spring, is a matchup nightmare, especially in the red zone. And clearly that’s where the Trojans’ defense struggles.
