UConn is so bad. Though the Huskies are 2-2 against some inflated spreads this season, they just lost 59-0 to Michigan. The program hasn’t won a road game since 2019. 

NC State doesn’t have Michigan’s offense. But the Wolfpack shouldn’t need to hang 50+ to cover this number; their defense has allowed just 17 points per game this season. I would like to see a Vegas line on whether UConn scores at all--I’d probably take the Under.

UConn vs. NC State O/U Pick

Under 49.5 (-110) ★★★

The question of the total is essentially a team total for NC State. The Huskies average 11.3 PPG but I don’t envision double-digits against the Wolfpack’s sturdy defense.

Against a Huskies defense that has allowed 490.7 yards of total offense per game (114th in FBS), the Wolfpack should have its way. But NC State’s highest scoring output against an FBS school this season is 27 points. For now, UConn is still FBS. We’ll give the Huskies more credit than to assume a 55-3 drubbing like the Wolfpack put to FCS Charleston Southern. 45-3? That’s on the table, but it still hits Under.

First Quarter Total: Over 10.5 (+100) ★★★

NC State runs one of the slowest-paced offenses in FBS. But when the other side essentially doesn’t deploy a defense, what’s to keep even the most methodical offenses from scoring multiple times in a quarter? 

Even if UConn starts with the football, its 29.27% third down conversion rate ranks outside the top 100. NC State will get to handle the ball a couple of times in the opening stanza.
