Continuity matters in college football, and it’s especially important early in the year. While Hawaii is making a change at quarterback, it’s last year’s backup, Micah Alejado, taking over. He’ll get to work with a few of last year’s starters at receiver, including Pofele Ashlock, who tied for the team lead in receiving touchdowns with six a year ago.

Ashlock isn’t a prototypical X receiver, but he does have good height at 6-foot-2, which is a very important consideration when offensive coordinators decide whose numbers to call in the red zone. With Ashlock having 15 touchdowns in 24 career appearances for Hawaii – and at least one touchdown in 12 of those – he is a solid bet at the price of -112 (52.8%) at Caesars, which would net us a $8.93 profit on a $10 wager. 🔥 Jackson Harris to score anytime TD (+320) ⭐⭐⭐

Harris joins Hawaii after spending two years at Stanford in a limited role. At 6-foot-3 and 205 lbs, Harris fits the X receiver mold better than Ashlock and should see plenty of targets on the boundary - and, hopefully for us, in the red zone. Harris was able to leverage his frame for a receiving touchdown at Stanford but didn’t see the field enough for more than that. 

Fortunately, Harris is penciled in as a starter in head coach Timmy Chang’s offense, so the lack of volume shouldn’t be the issue it was for him previously. It also helps that this is a good matchup for Harris and the Rainbow Warriors: the Stanford defense ranked 126th in offensive touchdowns allowed per game to opponents last year with 4.6. At odds of +320 (23.8%) on FanDuel, a $10 wager on Harris to score a touchdown will return a nice $32 profit.

🔥 Micah Ford to score anytime TD (-125) ⭐

Running back Micah Ford will start for Stanford in his second season with the program. He averaged 4.1 yards per carry with zero rushing scores last season – while he did toss two touchdown passes, those throws wouldn’t count for anytime touchdown scorer purposes.

But Ford now plays a Hawaii team that struggled against the run last season and ranked 102nd in yards allowed per rush attempt (4.9). The Rainbow Warriors bolstered their defensive line in the portal but run a base nickel scheme that is friendly to opposing rushers. Don’t be surprised if Ford breaks a chunk play and gets into the end zone with one less defender in the box.

While the odds of -125 (55.6%) are steep, as a $10 bet would return a profit of only $8, this wager isn’t a bad one to add to a same-game parlay for Saturday’s game.
