The emergence of sophomore Xavier Robinson has reignited Oklahoma's season following the struggles of one-time Heisman Trophy odds favorite John Mateer. With Mateer continuing to look shaky following thumb surgery, Robinson has been the offensive engine for Brent Venables' program and has been at his best against ranked opponents.
The former three-star recruit started the season low on the depth chart, and with sporadic playing time, he only managed 21 touches for 80 yards and a touchdown across the Sooners' first six games.
Over Oklahoma's last three games, he's emerged as the team's most consistent weapon, with a combined 39 touches for 317 yards and four scores against South Carolina, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. In those three games, he's managed three runs of 15-plus yards and 175 rushing yards after contact.
The 239-pound bruiser should continue to be the lead back in Ben Arbuckle's offense against the Crimson Tide, a team he ran for 107 yards and two scores against last season as a true freshman. Robinson can once again find success against Alabama, with the Tide ranking just No. 63 in EPA per rush on defense.
