Geolocation technology firm Xpoint has entered the regulated sports betting market in Missouri, following the state's official opening for legal wagering on December 1 of last year. The company received a license from the Missouri Gaming Commission to provide its geolocation and compliance technology to operators starting from the first day of operations.
This entry into the Missouri sports betting market follows the passage of Amendment 2 in November 2024 and a year-long regulatory process to establish the framework for both Missouri sports betting apps and retail sportsbooks. Missouri sports betting became the 31st US jurisdiction to offer legal statewide mobile wagering upon its launch.
In its announcement, Xpoint noted that it currently provides its verification and compliance services in 27 US states and in the Ontario sports betting market. The company has also recently expanded its international footprint by launching operations with partners in Brazil and the United Arab Emirates.
“Entering the Missouri market is a significant milestone for Xpoint as we continue to scale our footprint across North America. We are proud to provide the advanced geolocation technology required to ensure a secure and fully compliant environment for the state’s players,” said Xpoint CEO Manu Gambhir in a press release.
As part of its operations in the Show-Me State, Xpoint will provide its geofencing technology to help monitor suspicious betting activity and prevent fraudulent wagers. Xpoint ensured that it is committed to monitoring activity within the legal parameters set by the Missouri Gaming Commission.
Missouri sportsbook operators record strong initial engagement
Missouri's sports betting industry experienced a significant surge in user activity during its first week of operation. Data recorded by another geolocation firm, GeoComply, saw more than 520,000 active bettor accounts by December 8, representing a significant climb from the 250,000 accounts active on the opening day.
Residents flocked to take advantage of Missouri sportsbook promos.
This surge in participation pushed the projected wagering handle for the first seven days of the market to more than $73 million, a big start for the best sports betting sites.
Professional football was the primary driver of statewide wagering volume. Operators noted that the Kansas City Chiefs were the most-bet team in the state, despite the team facing potential elimination from playoff contention amid a series of losses.
Geolocation checks during a Sunday Night Football game at Arrowhead Stadium on December 7 reached 10,000 active accounts, rising to 43,000 during a subsequent home game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
DraftKings also reported a high volume of parlay betting, including a $1 wager on a nine-leg NBA parlay that resulted in a payout of $1,929.70. Caesars documented its largest single Missouri win from a bettor who took Michigan State on a live money line against Iowa in men's college basketball, securing $26,529.35.
At the same time, Circa Sports confirmed that the first legal wager placed in the state was a moneyline bet on the St. Louis Blues to defeat the Anaheim Ducks.
