With the new season of the NFL kicking off on Thursday, speculation about the next Super Bowl halftime show is already dominating headlines. While fans debate which teams will meet for the Vince Lombardi Trophy next February and spend their time scouring the Super Bowl odds, many are equally focused on who will perform during the sport's biggest stage.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell fanned speculation during an appearance on the Today show on NBC when he hinted at Taylor Swift potentially taking the halftime slot. Goodell described Swift as "a special, special talent" who would always be received but denied saying that there were negotiations in place.

When pressed again, he admitted her involvement was "a maybe."

The potential comes as the world remains interested in the love between pop star and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. His recent appearance on the New Heights podcast hosted by Travis's brother, Jason Kelce, reached over 22 million views on YouTube, the most-watched podcast episode globally, according to Guinness World Records.

Super Bowl LX will take place on February 8, 2026, with the entertainment advisory for the NFL, the Jay-Z-established agency Roc Nation, making the final decision on the marquee act. Meanwhile, speculations continue to circulate on social platforms.

On prediction site Kalshi, 55% of users are betting on Swift to take the stage, while Post Malone follows with 25% of support and Dua Lipa at 17%. Swift remains the overwhelming fan favorite as anticipation builds.

Betting markets profit from Swift-Kelce engagement

Speculation about Swift's potential halftime performance follows closely on the heels of another headline involving her and Travis Kelce. On prediction market platform Polymarket, a user known as "romanticpaul" turned a wager on the couple's engagement into a $3,134 profit just before the news became public.

The trader had been buying "Yes" shares on the engagement market since late July, but significantly increased purchases the day before the announcement. Nearly 1,200 additional shares were acquired less than 15 minutes before Swift and Kelce revealed their engagement on Instagram.

Polymarket structures wagers as shares valued at up to $1, paying out in full if the event occurs. In this case, the user accumulated 5,180 shares at an average cost of $2,046. With confirmation arriving Tuesday, the entire position paid out $5,180, resulting in a 153% return on investment.

The success highlights how prediction markets are increasingly being used to speculate on entertainment outcomes alongside politics and global events. Swift and Kelce's announcement proved to be more than a cultural moment as it also provided a profitable opportunity for those who anticipated it correctly.
