As Missouri rolls out legal sports betting, the first week produced significant engagement statewide. But the sharpest spike appeared inside and around Arrowhead Stadium during the Kansas City Chiefs–Houston Texans game.

Data from GeoComply, the geolocation firm supporting some of the best sports betting sites, showed that more than 10,000 active Missouri sports betting accounts were detected in the Arrowhead vicinity between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Sunday night.

The firm recorded over 43,000 geolocation checks during that six-hour window, underscoring how quickly in-stadium wagering became part of the fan experience. For perspective, Arrowhead Stadium has a seating capacity of 76,416, so a considerable number of those in attendance used mobile sportsbooks.

GeoComply reported that the early action represented a robust consumer interest in real-time, on-site sports wagering. The sports stadium surge coincided with a comprehensive launch of Missouri sports betting apps across the state, which began on Dec. 1.

Across the first seven days of regulated betting, the company logged nearly 18.5 million geolocation checks and more than 520,000 active sports betting accounts. IDComply, the company's identity verification solution, achieved a 92% success rate in identity verification, enabling fast registration amid a large influx of users.

The data from Arrowhead was illustrative of the rapid integration of sports betting into the Missouri sports landscape as residents take advantage of Missouri sportsbook promos.

Chiefs' playoff picture tightens

The increase in activity came simultaneously with a tough week for the Chiefs on the field, making it an organic point of convergence for fan activity and playoff speculation. The Chiefs fell to 6-7 after a 20-10 loss to the Houston Texans at Arrowhead, marking the first time quarterback Patrick Mahomes dropped below .500 in December.

The defeat lowered Kansas City's playoff probability to 15% on the prediction platform Kalshi, while DraftKings listed the team at +390 to reach the postseason. Houston improved to 8-5 and retained control of the AFC's final playoff position, pushing Kansas City two games back in the wild-card race.

Kansas City has now lost four of its last five games and is out of contention for the AFC West title, ending a run of nine straight division championships. The organization had appeared in five of the previous six AFC championship games, reaching the conference title round every season since Mahomes became the starter.

To stay in the playoff race, the Chiefs will need to win their remaining games, beginning with the Los Angeles Chargers, and also rely on losses from the Texans, Chargers, and Bills. DraftKings listed Kansas City at +950 to win the AFC Championship, indicating longer odds even if the team qualifies for the postseason.
