#283Mmmmmmmm....Berrerrrrrrrrr
Baghdatis is historically awful vs. lefties, has been playing in the heat with a stomach bug all week, barely squeaked by a 30%-effective and injured Simon, and dropped a set to a way-below-average Devvarman. He is 12-0 lifetime in the Middle East and this stat shouldn't be ignored, but I think it may be time for that streak to come to an end. Berrer is in pretty good form and should be nicely rested after Nikolay Davydenko was forced to retire during their match yesterday. The two have played only one time before this, and that was won by Baggy but only 7-6, 7-6.
It seems like there is some real value here for Berrer to come out of this one on top. I can't ignore the possibility of a Berrer win and I am gonna jump on this one at +175.Comment -

#289Agree with Scholar and the others. I am a fan of Baghdatis' game, but he has been over valued in 2010 in almost every match he's played.Comment -

#296I'll believe that when I see it. Same situation as when he beat Verdasco last week. He wins one and people develop trust back in him because of situation. He's playing someone who rarely plays hard courts and has little success on it outside of some challenger level stuff, but what has Chardy done in 2010 to deserve any trust? He's down a break in the 1st when he should be up a break, but blew several break chances in the 2nd game to Santiago Giraldo.Comment -

#297Acapulco Notes for Thursday, 2.25
Juan Carlos Ferrero vs. Nicolas Almagro could be a dandy. I've a little surprised by the 22.5 total since the price indicates that the books believe Almagro has a solid shot here. Although the total would probably be predicated on JCF's absolute dominance of late. JCF at -145, Almagro at +125. Have beaten this to death, but Almagro has a solid track record at this tournament and JCF may get fatigued at some stage of this tournament since he has played for two plus weeks straight. I think Almagro has a better shot to beat JCF in three because of that even in spite of his 3 setter with Gasquet. Would I go against Ferrero now? You'd have to have cahones to do it. I think the over does have a shot here though if Almagro doesn't serve like an idiot as he did for parts of the match against Gasquet. Ferrer looks the likeliest to cruise today and may be worth a shot on the handicap at -4.5 against Cuevas who ambushed Montanes. Under 20.5 seems to be the play if you like Ferrer to win big against Cuevas. Verdasco and Monaco should be a real war. They've played on clay five times with Monaco going 4-1. The lone win for Verdasco came last May. Verdasco did a much better job on serve vs. Kubot and Kubot's own serve was crap. Monaco does not possess a great serve, but like many of these clay court vets, he's just a savvy player on this surface. I think at +140, I'd rather side with that than Verdasco at -160. The price seems to reflect too that Monaco is generally rated the better player on clay despite the gap in rankings between the two. Schwank and Gonzalez is the other match. If Schwank had any success at the ATP main draw level on clay, I'd rate him a decent dartboard shot at a big dog price. Gonzo hasn't been particularly dazzling in either of his first two matches here, so the total at 21 presents some value for the over I think if Schwank can get his first serves in at a better clip than he's been doing in the last two rounds. Not sure that is gonna happen though and Gonzo may be due for a steamroller type match.Comment -

#303If by do it, you mean lose what was his to win - then yes, I agree. He is a double fault machine today and they are coming more often than not at critical points. I'll eat my words if he wins, but I think Giraldo has to hand him a game to win. Otherwise, bye bye Chardy.Comment -

#305He is certainly the better player on talent, but that doesn't always win matches. Especially not for him this year. I think best case this goes to a tie break and those double faults would scare the hell out of me once you get there.Comment -

#312Welcome to THE TALK for Friday, February 25th
DUBAI
A very unpredictable tournament thus far as Djokovic is the only guy left standing among the semifinalists that you'd have expected. He goes against Marcos Baghdatis at -290. Djokovic is 3-0 lifetime vs. the Cypriot, but they have played some memorable matches in Slams in their last two meetings. Baggy has been pretty solid in 2 of his 3 here after the topsy turvy match against Devarrman. Djokovic has had early troubles in his last two matches, but rebounded nicely to roll in 3 sets. I think Baghdatis' best chance here is to bring a thundering first serve. If he doesn't, I think Djokovic will prevail. Djokovic has been steady, not spectacular on serve and I expect that will continue. Watch where the bookies set the total here as this should be competitive and I would expect a total set to reflect the possibility of a 3 set war at 23 or 23.5. Youzhny and Melzer in the other semi. Interesting note that all five career meetings between the two have come on clay, so you can't read anything in the head-2-head. The Russian has been solid since barely surviving the opening round, while Melzer has been more impressive especially with knocking off Cilic in a gutsy effort yesterday. Youzhny at -160 is in that area where trust is a key word. Right now, Melzer at solid +140 odds and a hot hand seem like the better play.

#315EP do you get doubles lines? Ever thought about playing those? Blake/Kendrick look GREAT tonight on serve and return and they were only at -175 and seem to be cruising to an easy win. I think there's a lot of value on some of these doubles matches nowComment
