Riba NEVER plays on hard courts. 9 matches in his career. That being said, James Blake at this point has no reason to be backed at any price against anyone with a pulse. He should wipe the court with someone like Riba who does not play on this surface, but Blake's last match puts little confidence toward that sort of display today. Small play OVER 22 games for me on this one just from a gut feeling just because despite Riba's lack of play on hard courts, I would not be surprised if Blake lays another clunker. Also would not be surprised if he won easily in straights. My gut is saying he will struggle some. Riba will struggle some and that crapfest could wind up being an over.

yea riba has funny stats 108 challenger and atp clay court wins, 3-3 on hardcourts (never ever played an atp hardcourt tourney)
i agree with eagles here, blake can't lose this match but i wouldnt be surprised if riba gives him a lot of trouble. he's got the j-block with him and he won the tourny twice... it just feels like blake has to win but nobody can back him

Finally updated. Of course Clement stays on-serve most of the 2nd to 3-3. If he could have gotten 4-4, a push at worst. But of course not. Another shit start to a week, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Looks that way right now. I'd be surprised at this rate is Riba won more than a game or 2, and could see him losing them all.

yeah Riba is trash, this match means nothing. This will be bad for me though because the books might take too much out of this match. I hope Blake opens as a nice size dog but I think he will be overvalued

PENNETTA + BARTOLI [-132]
Pennetta draws Kleybanova whom she beat easily in Montreal last week in straights and also beat on an indoor hard surface in February. She's in good form and knows how to beat this girl. Same goes for Bartoli against Alona Bondarenko. Bartoli beat Bondarenko in straights in Cincy a few weeks back and has taken 4 of 5 from Bondarenko in their careers, most coming in the last three years. Bondarenko has shown little on hard courts this summer, while Bartoli has quietly had a solid summer with three QF appearances in four tournaments.

Yeah this is the one week where the more I look, the more I actually like the WTA matches better which is very rare for me. I'd love to crush that Dolgopolov line over Blake, but that's way too fishy at basically a pick 'em.

KIRILENKO-VESNINA OVER 21.5 [+110]
The old Russian vs. Russian play for me in this one. Whenever two Russians get it on in WTA action, siding with the over is usually a reasonably good play. This seems the case here as Kirilenko has played three set matches in 4 of the 5 head-2-head match-ups against her fellow Russianettes in 2010. Vesnina has played 3 setters in 3 of the 4 head-2-heads against Russians in 2010. Vesnina worked hard to get through qualis in New Haven, so she may start faster and she did make the finals here last year. Kirilenko isn't lost on this court as she's played this tournament plenty. At 21.5, it is possible this could get done even in straights. One thing for sure, Maria will bring the hotness.

Usually not one to back Becker on hard courts even though it's hard to believe his game doesn't translate better to this surface. However, I like this spot. He goes against Istomin who is an inconsistent player who can dominate on his best days and look like a polished turd on his worst. He's also coming off rolling his ankle last week in Cincinnati with just four days or so to recover. I don't see any information on how he's responded, but I'll try this with Becker already having played a match in the gusty New Havent conditions against Chiudinelli and winning in straights. Becker simply must get in a high percentage on his 1st serve, that will give him a chance today. Should know early if the ankle is a problem or not for Istomin.

LACKO-BELLUCCI OVER 23 [-120]
Two very inconsistent players on this surface which is why I side with the over. Bellucci flashed some solid form in Toronto last week, losing in a 3 setter to Baghdatis. Lacko has played tough on hard courts, but has the mixed results with a lot of 3 set affairs. Neither guy should be overly concerned with the US Open next week, so I'm expecting a competitive battle.

I knew Lacko played a lot of wobbly matches, but didn't realize how many three setters he had on outdoor hard courts this year. Seems a decent shot. If Lacko serves well, always a shot to do it in straights. Lacko's serve troubles me more than Bellucci's.

Bartoli gets it done in 3 finally. Pennetta starts with a break. Maybe the parlay can cash after all!
