Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake's Barbershop of Tennis Talk
Yes, I made the thread title intentionally cheesy. Yes, I was a huge wrestling mark when I was a kid. Yes, this video of Marty Jannetty getting super kicked through the Barbershop window was a pivotal moment in my childhood.

Ok boys, enough with the memories. I'll be posting some picks in here from time to time. I'm on a bit of a heater right now and these things come and go so got to capitalize now. I started with $475 last Sunday hit a massive 5 team parlay on the New York Jets and 4 WTA plays to win almost $2,000. I've hit 4 huge plays that I posted earlier this week in Donald Brown, Stosur, Gulbis, and Davydenko. I'm sitting at $5700 today.

I would love for all of us in the forum to work together and bounce plays off each other so we can all make this a profitable end to the tennis season.

    Tail if you wish.

I'm gonna be all over Gael Monfils tonight at -150. He's looked pretty solid the last couple tournaments since coming back from injury. He's great on the surface. Monfils beat Simon on the same surface last January. And last but not least Simon did not look great against Go Soeda (who is really bad himself on the hard courts). He got pushed 6-4, 6-4 and I think his shoulder may still be an issue.

For me, I will say this is going to be a big play (bigger than medium, smaller than huge). I'm not really planning on discussing units too often in this thread. If anyone does end up wanting to tail me, I think it's best for you to decide how much you are comfortable in playing.

Sorry to the mods for creating a 2nd thread. I locked myself out of the original one somehow and didn't know how to link them. Let's just use this one as the official thread where I make my picks.

Bad beat on Monfils. Looks like he hurt himself again midway through the 2nd set.

Sad to see such a performance after all the efforts to come here. Hope he gets back on track and shows us what he's really got!

Quick play going off in 20 minutes. Bernard Tomic +4. The moneyline is tempting but I don't think Tomic has the mental fortitude to pull off the upset. He really showed what he could do with his serve on this surface in the opening round against Garcia Lopez who he absolutely carved up. Tomic came back down to earth though against lesser competition yesterday in Dudi Sela. Richard Gasquest needed a miracle finish to beat Dimitrov yesterday down 5-2 I believe it was in the 2nd set. I'm banking on the thought of being in for an emotional letdown here.

Medium sized play Bernard Tomic +4

Cash it with Tomic +4. Match played out much as I thought it would. We got a tiebreak in the 1st and only 1 break in the 2nd and that's all we needed.

Good call buddy, tailed and cashed with you! Now if only Ferrer and Malisse can pick it up and Raonic can take care of Nieminen I can cash on a nice little parlay! Anything else stand out today for you?

I'm done for the day. Will have some plays tonight.

Tip: Don't bet the bigger names in Challenger tournaments. They usually don't care see Kohlschreiber yesterday and Malisse today.

Thanks for the tip, I see that now! And here I thought it only referred to Tsonga, who burned me so many times in the past! But now I see that other big names don't seem to care about these tournaments at all!

I did the fault of adding Malisse to my parlay with Gasquet, Benneteau and Volandri. Hope it doesn't fail from just Malisse. What a fool . Now put Vasselin and Gulbis into my football parlay, let's see how that goes.

Lost both legs of my last parlay. 2 upsets, nothing you can do about it sometimes.

                          YTD 5-2

Victor Troicki -195 It's more chalk than I usually like to eat but Robin Haase is just absolute garbage lately. He got handled by a qualifier (204th rank) last week at Bangkok. Troicki only made it 1 round further but lost a tough matchup against a red hot Monfils.

Speaking of monfils, I thought about putting something small on him to beat Murray. Maybe still a little hungover from his amazing US Open and first major title?

Raonic -125 It's gonna be close just like the January 3 setter and 3 tiebreaks. As long as Raonic's serve is on, Tipsy won't be able to hold up. I know Raonic is a bit of a mental case but I'll take my chances.

Sam Querrey - 2 1/2 -125 I don't see any way Querrey doesn't handle Lopez realtively easily. Beat him in straight sets at Winston Salem. Better serve. Better on the surface. Play Querrey at -200 if you want but I'll take the better payout odds. I see this as a 6-4, 6-4 type affair.

                                              Marcos Baghdatis + 150

Kei Nishikori has never won a set in 3 career meetings. Now you can toss 2 of those out because they are too long ago to mean anything, but 6-4, 6-3 in January. Nishikori has the home court advantage but that only takes him so far. I see this being real close but +150 is too good of a value to pass on.

I don't see why it's an "upset". I think it should be closer to a pick 'em. With that said, I usually do end up on the wrong side of Nishikori matches. Example the Monaco match last week. We shall see.

YTD 7-5 Right on Berdych tough loss on the parlay.

Heather Watson -230 a lot of juice so can easily be parlayed with a college football game tomorrow.

Cash on Heather Watson made a straight bet on her in addition to the parlay and just ate that chalk. Didn't want to mess around with the Rutgers -7 1/2 point spread because their kicker is out so no field goals and even extra points could be a challenge but very confident of picking up the win at home.

Nice job! Took her in a few parlays also but I refused to pay that kinda juice on WTA. ATP sure, I can trust mens tennis but these women are absurd...always a rollercoaster ride even with the top 5 players.

                                                            You taking Joker and Fed?

Joker should finish Berdych in 3 or 4. I think Fed wins in 3 or 4 as well. Fed looks good this tournament and Murray although he has improved a ton is still very inconsistent.
