Using Pinnacle in the UK and taxes

    Hi there,
I'm considering moving to the UK seeing that betting winnings are tax free and there's way more sportsbooks in the UK than in my country. When it comes to Pinnacle though, I've seen that is it banned if you have a UK IP. I do not mind using a VPN to access Pinnacle but I would like to know if it's completely legal to bet in pinnacle living in the UK and not pay any taxes from my pinnacle winnings.

Let's say if I earned 20k this year from pinny would I have any problem when it comes to declaring my taxes since pinnacle doesn't have a UK license?

    Thanks

If you are resident in the UK for taxation purposes then gambling winnings are not taxable. But I would check with an accountant.

But you can't simply join Pinny with a VPN and a UK address. They do not allow it.

Its a bit of a grey area, but gambling income is not taxable at all in the UK and does not need to be declared. Probably better if you use a Pinny agent, otherwise you will have to use Pinny with a foreign address registered which could possibly cause problems with the unexplained income.

I am no expert though and could well be incorrect about the 2nd part of my reply. But gambling winnings are 100% non taxable though!

    As above, agent accounts+vpn.

An alternative: the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands have separate legal structures, and Pinny direct accounts seem to be accepted there (they aren't part of the UK). For the same reason Gibraltar, although I don't know about gambling tax there.

I already have a pinnacle account through an agent. That's why I'm unsure wether I'd have to pay taxes or not and if I could justify those earnings coming from betting.

Pinnacle applied for a UK license in 2018 but eventually withdrew the application. It is highly likely that Pinnacle will address the issues that caused the license withdrawal and reapply in the very near future. I would expect Pinnacle to have a UK license by June 2020.

Yeah, I think they are returning to the UK soon.

Here's the income tax position since 1925:

Thanks for the answers. If someone bets on pinnacle from the UK I'd appreciate if you could write your experience here.
