    Anyone Have Running Experience?
So, I haven't ran regularly in a long time, but I get back into the swing of things pretty quickly so I'm not too worried about that.

I was watching a women's olympic event with my family, and the gold medalist for the 1500m ran it in 4:10. I said that it's not very impressive and I think I can beat it if I train for awhile on it. Now, I have some money on that claim.

In 7th grade, I'm pretty sure that I ran the 800m in 2:20, and I'd like to think I could run it closer to 2:00 now. I remember running a 200m in like 28 seconds I believe, so hopefully that would be down to about 24 now.

Anyhow, was wondering if anyone knew the correct way to approach this since I don't run right now at all. I was thinking about starting off just jogging/walking on and off for a few miles a few times a week for a few weeks, and then maybe try to time myself for 100/200/400/1500/1600, and go from there.

you are gonna have to run a 4:27 ish mile

which will put you at the fitness level of around 1:58 ish in the 800 which is pretty impressive... and damn near imposssible without training...

how old are you now? how much time do you have to prepare?

if your beginning prepare requires you to walk.... i think you are in trouble

        I get 9 months, and I'm 20.

And I think I can run the 800 in 1:58 by then too.

most ridiculous thread i've ever read haha. You couldn't even run a 6 minute mile. I know what you mean though. Sometimes when I smoke weed and watch baseball I think the same way. I sometimes get so cocky and dumb i think i could do a better job than the current mets batters (besides wright)

if you are already really really fit, I guess you'd have a shot in 9 months if you really really trained hard and smart. also it would be tough to run that kind of time alone. get some rabbits/pacers to run the first few laps ahead of you at target pace.

i'd try to build up to running 30+ miles of running for the first half of your preparation running 5-6 days a week.
One long slow run of 6-8 miles
                  1 or 2 medium runs of 5ish
3-4 3-4 mile runs ran fast.

then you'd start incorporating more and more speed/track work. running 200, 400, 600, 800 repeats above your target pace. do searches on specific track workouts.

yeah at first glance having been a serious runner for 6 years myself I thought no way. but I have met some freaks of nature in my time that might have been able to do it in 9 months.

I'd set the line at over 4:10 for the 1500 at around -3500 though

walk for 3-4 days and get your feet loosened up. watch what you eat. 5th day or so start jogging not tiring yourself out and after a week start sprinting. Also what you wanna do is make sure you pace yourself and don't tire yourself out too quickly.

been running 4-5 days a week since Jan 1

going to try to get under 5 minutes for the mile for the first time since I was 19, by the end of this summer.

got a long way to go. First goal is to finish my first organized race in 16+ years in april ( 5 miler)

I was thinking of getting into law enforcement about 9 year ago....One of the tests was running a mile and a half.....No way I could do it - run the mile and a half literally, I would be walking by the end.....Think my best time was like 18 minutes or something like that....
