As HigherElement already stated, the purpose of your life is to ensure the continuity and survival of your species. That's it. Our ego tries to convince us otherwise, but that's all life is about. Just about everything we do can be traced back down to reproduction and survival. Enjoy life; have fun with it.

A religion based on fear? No thank you.

And have you ever thought; if one has to find Jesus, doesn't that imply that he is hiding? What if he just wants you to leave him the hell alone?

Jesus is not hiding. Jesus is waiting for you to open your heart to Him. If you knock on the door, He will answer it. Jesus loves you more than you ever can imagine. Ask Jesus to prove to you that He is real and I promise you, if you keep asking Him, He will show you that He is real.

What about gay sex? Can't be any reproduction in that. And I don't believe it's a disease nor a choice. So that confuses me.

I think the concept of being gay has changed quite a bit from eons ago. I bet there were plenty of gays who lived heterosexual lives and they likely wrote off their impulses. Think about it, what would a gay person do to act on their impulses, given the likelihood that the number of others, who shared their views, were very few and far from their proximity. If you look at many ancient artifacts, they are naked women who have large breasts, hips, and other characteristics that are symbolic with fertility. There is a reason that women were worshipped and societies were mostly matrilineal. Also, a lot of cave art is of animals and hunting because that's what life was about. Just my two-cents.

Homosexuality occurs in nature, not just amongst our species. Many other species also engage in homosexuality; it is not exclusive to humans. I don't have an answer on why homosexuality exists. Why does sex feel good, if it were just a means of reproduction?

Name just about anything a sane adult does, and it will be traced back to your purpose in life = to ensure the continuity and survival of your species, the exact same as every other member of the animal kingdom. We're just trying to placate our egos when we think that we are more important than we truly are. We are part of the food chain, nothing more, nothing less.

If all one knows and believes are these two quotes that speak eternal truth about this worldly existence we experience... you'll be fine:

"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,
Than are dreamt of in your philosophy."
                          -- Shakespeare

Nothing or no one has it completely right; the stated convictions of the atheists are as depthless as all the religious pontifications (ultimately).

Science provides us with enough clues and hints that tell us the full, grand scope of reality/existence is probably unknowable on this mortal coil (parallel universes, things existing simultaneously in more than one place, etc.).

Doesn't mean we'll never know, of course, and heaven isn't to be interpreted here in the religious sense, obviously.

“There is only one real antidote to the anguish engendered in humanity by its awareness of inevitable death: erotic joy.”-- Gilles Néret

Too much animalistic thought in this thread. If you don't believe in religion that is cool, but religion is a powerful thing and has helped people evolve to a state, of hopefully, less animalistic type of thought and actions.

Boys, anybody who says it's all about this or all about that in some type of authoritative type of manner is a moron.

I believe the purpose of life is to make the world a better place, now how this is done can be debated until the end of time, but there are people who have, by almost all accounts, made this world a better place. Mother Theresa, Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr are just a few famous examples. There are millions more who are unknown, but they have contributed to the betterment of society and that is truly commendable in my opinion.

The purpose of human life is to make the world a better place? The world doesn't care that we exist. The world has seen many species die out, and we're just yet another species here. You're speaking with your ego. What is the purpose of a dog's life? Or that of an elephant? What about homo erectus?

The homo genus itself has only existed a bit more than 2 million years. That's a drop in the bucket compared to how old the earth is, which is around 4.5 billion years. If the purpose of human life is simply to make the world a better place, then what did the world do the rest of that time? Was it a decaying cesspool until we came along a couple of million years ago and made it all better? Doubtful. If anything, we're making it worse.
