Guy skipped town a few years ago and went to CR, he owed be about 25K. I had him tracked down but he was so broke he was living hand to mouth. Playing in some band just to make enough money to buy his meals sleeping wherever he could put his head down. He wasnt even a gambler, but he sold his house here and gave a little bit of whatever equity it had to his (ex) wife and left her and the kids hanging after that. So this post is an obvious no brainer in terms of legitimacy.

I am well read on CR and have lots of contacts there
Not a place to live if your from USA or Canada
Look at Loshak..a kid that was thrown out of his house in usa, outcast in local neighborhood
Now he runs in streets of CR and he is revered , a wild looking balding crazy mother fukker
CR full of Loshaks, guys you just look at and know "their is something wrong with him"

CR isn't for everybody. You either like it or you don't. I don't care where I live; I follow the money. Life is what you make it.

It's just semantics. Costa Ricans love to say that they're Americans, because they live on the American continent. They are taught that America is one huge continent, while most of the world is taught that America consists of 2 continents.

With the way so many gringos complain down here, makes me wonder why the hell they're here to begin with. I guess CR immigration must be kidnapping foreigners again and not letting 'em leave.

Don't relocate anywhere that you don't have a working knowledge of the language or a comprehensive care taking staff/girlfriend. Preferably the prior. It's one thing to visit Russia or Italy for a week and not be able to speak. Quite another thing to live somewhere where you can not even order lunch.

Know one back home even notices they are gone and most are glad they are

Not too bad. I can speak about like a 1st grader. But I'm from south Texas so already had a decent vocabulary when I got down there in 2005.

You ever feel bad that your wife knows more English than you do Spanish? I came down in '04, and my tica wife's english blows my spanish out of the water.

Nah, well, my wife's first language is English anyway. If I decide to live there I will get my rear in Spanish classes. My gringo cousins speak extremely well. They did it with some classes and a lot of practice with dvd's while driving. If you plan on staying there you should consider spending an hour a day practicing with a trained teacher.

I did a few months at Intensa when I first got here, my spanish is actually pretty good. Just had a kid a year ago, and my wife is pretty family-oriented, so I'm here for quite a while. Darn, what a punishment, lol.
