good thread mckraken, kind've in my element here - used to/still do this shit for a living so my knowledge of this music stuff is unrivaled across most genres bar country, will run through a few different things here. i possess well in excess of a terabyte (1000 gigs) of mp3's + thousands of vinyls, cds & EP's, so will try to just pick & choose stuff that has been on rotation.

my taste has no boundaries, can get down with pretty much anything that is well produced & has the right vibe, majority of the tracks/albums listed here have been released in the past year or 2, so most is fresh just as you request!

we'll start off with some electronica (though the best way to really pin a genre covering these first few is "alternative dance"), these particular artists are generally unknown to the regular joe blow, really only music heads, DJ's or anyone with a keen eye/ear to sift through all the crap put out these days will know what's up.

group from NY, this is a track off their 2nd album titled 'diver'. overall the LP is decent, a little bit of filler but this one is one of the stand outs, bit of a summery vibe for all you americans sweatin' it out right now.

one of my favorite acts in recent times, only 2 EP's released so far so still waiting for the album, as you can tell by their name & EP cover art they're going for the spooky/mysterious vibe but i'm a big fan all the same.

won't get carried away with uptempo stuff, so will switch it up a bit. lets get funky , a daptone records special here, these 2 groups are by no means new news as they've both been around for a few years now ('05) but with that being said both these records showcase some of their more recent work & boy it delivers.

another personal fave still with the funk vibe, try to not nod your head to this if you gots some rhythm in you.

moving on with some alt/indie rock, these guys got my attention with their first album in 2010, just put out their 2nd LP this year, heres a little somethin' from the more recent release, catchy for sure. suckers as a band name is a bit left field but I guess it works.

& i'll end this post with a great duo that go by 'the kickdrums', these guys are so slept on it's not even funny, have released a couple of records so far & both are quality. you can't really pin a genre on them as there are influences from various genres throughout their work but genre isn't important, sweet sounds are!

here is a track off the latest LP, genre-defying as I hinted at before but oh so good! unfortunately there is no youtube of this so will have to resort to soundcloud.

have also put out some good mixtapes as a prelude to their records feat. other artists, the trailer for one of the more recent ones follows..

tune in trailer: the kickdrums - all over again

I had to hear this song a few times before I started liking it. Thru headphones it sounds pretty effin' good.

played a hip hop set on the radio tonight, this is pretty much everything i played, very spacey laid back vibe, lots of girly vocals but that was sound i was goin' for, actually got in trouble for playing some of these because there were complaints about language 'n such & i used explicit versions of tracks instead of the clean rip, won't post all of them but enough

all hip hop has been released this year except last song, can't remember exact order i played them but remember at the very least the 1st & last songs are in the right place, enjoy hip hop heads
