I got kicked out of a hospital today.
Let me first say this. I am the most laid back person on this earth. I never get angry and I usually never say anything out of anger to people, but today I learned about our health care system and i lost it. My girlfriend ask me to take her father to the doctor today. He has diabetes in his mid 60's and is in pretty bad health. Can't walk very well because legs are swollen and such. So i go to pick him up and he is sitting in the couch and he is acting like he is having a heart attack.. He is breathing heavy and clutching his chest. He is a resident from Colombia and speaks no english. I call 911 and the ambulance comes. So i follow the ambulence to the hostpital and get there right behind. I get ahold of my girlfriend and she one her way. I go in and they tell me he is in really bad shape they need me to go back and he might not make it and they need to ask me health history questions. So i go into a icu room and there is like 6 doctors and couple nurses. They are putting oxygen and everything else on him.. Asking me a million questions about history etc etc. I am like i really dont know. I am trying to help translate to him because no one speaks spanish but me. Ok thats fine. So this is where i get pissed. In the middle of all this going on, i am told by the ambulence driver i need insurace info so we can bill them not him.. I am like really? So he says he will get it later. So a couple poeple leave and they are still working on him. He is really struggling. I don't think hes going make it. Now i am the only one here, I am trying to answer their questions, and listen to my girlfriend scream on the phone and everything. So get this shit. A lady comes in with this machine and i think she is going to start tests and she says can you roll him over and get his id and insurance card out of his wallet? Really you rooster sucking bitch. He is about to die and really you want me to get this info out? so I go off on her. She leaves. They bring a security guard in a tell me if i can cooperate i will need to leave. I ignore him. So finally my girlfriend gets there. I go out into the emergency room to meet her and bring her back. She left work and her purse and everything. They tell her we need a id for you to go back. She had left it back at work. I tell the guard you didnt ask me for one when i went back. He says you werent back there. I said yes i was dumbass you were back there with me and told me you were going to ask me to leave if i didnt cooperate. He says ahh yes you were that jerk/// I told him to go **** himself and see how he feels when he has a emergency and all they ******* care about is finding out what insurance you have. He called the cops and they took me off the property. They were actually pretty understanding and said they knew were i was coming from. I really don't feel about losing my temper which i never do. I just can't imagine dying on a table while people are looking for your insurance info. I don't get it. Luckiely he is doing better now and is still in icu but they were able to drain fluid off his lungs.. What a day..

      TOO LONG

all you have to do is play the race card and you get whatever you want

now, if you were black.... you could've called Al Sharpton and they would've shut that hospital down by tomorrow

remember, all you have to do is pull out the race card and you will get free shit non-stop

you should fukking know this already if your wife is Colombian

"Me dijo q es un maricon colombiano.... q no vale nada" .... Sirens show up. race police. 5 free surgeries on the house

My first thought was that they heard him speaking in spanish and figured he was a no pay for stay guest. then I remembered when a buddy was helping me put a metal roof on a rental house, he slid off when it started drizzling rain and I took him to ER. He didn't have any insurance, and was in pain but a bitch still came in there pushing a little pc on a cart to collect his information. I slipped her a couple of hundred bucks and gave her his mailing address before asking for some space and she went away. Instead of blowing up you should have remembered to grease the fukking pigs and they'll stop squealing.
It still shows a lack of class and common courtesy to be trolling the ER beds for payment info. They all suxk.
If you think this sux wait until the government takes over healthcare, they'll grind it to a halt like everything else the dickheads touch. Just die at the house with a cold one in your hand if it gets to that point.

just show the card it shouldnt have hurt you, the person on the counter could have handle it way better by calming you down because i felt that you were about to lose it.

Rather silly as an emergency room can't legally refuse service or alter it based on if you have it or not anyhow...

That's just not right. I'm here to tell you, as someone who went bankrupt many years ago because of hospital bills-they care about money and the business more than whether or not you make it. Health should not be for profit-defeats the purpose of a doctor helping a person. The doctor should be compensated and compensated well, but the U.S. government needs to stop fukking it's citizen's around and take a look at health systems in other countries. Fukkin ridiculous and I get pissed when I hear about it. I would have got kicked out too, for sure.

Anything that is for profit is cheap. Companies compete witch each other to offer the cheapest price to the consumers so they can make profit.

When the government gets more involved in health care you will see prices increase even higher

Without usury of the banks creating debt out of nothing which the fed always did, the fed(privately owned banks)who produces no goods but takes all goods with a complex deviant system which enslaves the people in a falsehood of life long debt......

Now, with the fed abolished meaning the government sets up the banks for the people by the people and owned by the people with notes backed by the people for exchanging of service and goods. This system is so simple to understand it is mind boggling
to even try to comprehend why the FED is so complicated, but once you understand the original concept of a simple banking system our for fathers designed for us,you will then understand why the Fed is so complicated, the reason is to deceive the people and reward those who do its evil deeds, which has worked like a well oiled machine of deceit since the beginning of time............

There is to many willing and unknowing servants to this federal system to abolish it,unless a miracle of spreading this truth happens in the very near future.........

Put it this way, if the Fed stays intact, you and I and the entire country except for the few in the Elite system will beg for socialism in the near future.............

I work in an emergency dept, but I also am lucky enough to work in a country that has government controlled health care and that provides free cover to all residents/citizens. You guys really do not know what you are missing in not having a properly formed government controlled system.

There is also private hospital cover here but if you are really sick and it is life and death, you want to be going to a public hospital for the best possible care.

I have experienced the american system and I also currently work with some of your fellow countrymen. Regarding your situation, the hospital staff MUST treat your father in-law, insurance or not. The law states that it should be the same level of treatment, the only difference being who gets billed for the hospital stay.

From what you have explained of the situation, they definitely handled this in the wrong way.

Firstly, you should not have been brought into the cubicle with your father in-law. As you say, you have not experienced that sort of thing before and starting to stress out. The only questions they should have needed was his medical history and a brief description of his issues before you called 911. This should have all been communicated to the ambulance attendants/paramedics and you escorted to a waiting area away from your father in-law. As much as you think you are may be able to help in some way, you are much better off away from the situation and the medical staff are much better off attending to him alone. This is not your fault, but that off the hospital staff.

The second mistake by the staff was asking for insurance details while you were in that situation and makes me think there is a lack of training with their clerical/finance staff. If you were escorted away from the scene earlier, you would most likely have been a little calmer and perhaps able to answer financial questions a little better. Either way, this should not have been a major issue at that time but it is also an effect of the procedures involved with getting a patient onto the computer system so he can be tracked properly from within the hospital. Once patient details are entered into the system (name, dob, etc), the next step is usually to enter financial details and you cannot continue entering further data until this is completed.

Having said all that, if a patient's relative is starting to 'escalate' or perhaps threaten staff, then very little shit will be tolerated. Ever. At the end of the day the patient's welfare is the priority and the best thing to do is leave the medical staff to do their job. And if that means kicking you out, then so be it.

Sorry for the long post but I just wanted to give you more of an idea of the overall picture. I hope all works out for your father in-law. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Yet they do "alter" treatment based on your ability to pay all the time. Welcome to the future of the U.S's Healthcare system.

Well my 2 cents. My son was born three weeks ago and had to get life flighted to a level 5 NICU and spent 8 days there. We have a high deductible plan of 2400 a year for all of us combined. We had already met the deductible, so for all his care it was over 75,000 dollars for everything and we did not have to pay 1 dam cent.People bitch about a high deductible but you figure you would pay 150-200 a paycheck anyway with co pays but its the same either way.Either you pay now or later.Thank god we had private insurance.Yeah its not universal health care, but if it was we would be paying it in higher taxes of 35% vs 15-20.So I think we are getting a deal.

I'm not trying to be a dickhead or anything but if you live in an area that is predominately Hispanic I'm a little surprised that there wasn't a single doctor or nurse that didn't speak Spanish. You would think the Hospital would eventually figure out that it might be useful to hire a person or two that speak Spanish.
