It can include content, online tools, downloads, or anything else that another site owner might find compelling enough to link to. Link bait is important because most search engines use backlinks as a major factor in determining ranking.
Every time you search these made up names google logs the search and compiles the search infor because you are searching for a make believe entity. They may eventually direct your search to a site that will more likely than not benefit the OP. The backlink is not yet established. He needs more google hits to make it worth his while.
