Mr. Market, I'm a fan of yours. I enjoy reading your erudite posts. But I must say the religous reference bothered me. I don't go to church very often but that seemed a bit out of character for you. You're better than that.

Oh please, if you want to romanticize religious life within Catholicism into some anachronistic bastion of sexual virtue, that's your prerogative, but it makes no one else beholden to help you keep the wool over your eyes. MrMarket's post was in perfect accord with my own experiences involving Catholic religious life and he expressed his thoughts without a single derogatory word aimed at the purely hypothetical subjects.

In fact the biggest insult in this exchange is your holier-than-thou proclamation that MrMarket is "better than that." Who died and made you king, such that disappointing you should be a de facto blow to common decency? If you want to live in a society that vilifies those who express less than glowing remarks about the Catholic Church, get the hell out of New England and move to Vatican City. Here in America we believe that everyone is allowed to insult everyone else's sense of right and wrong up until the point someone ends up naked. Since I see no naked people in this thread, that renders your outrage nothing more than a matter of someone failing to purchase big boy underwear once their Underoos no longer fit. :P

If you want to challenge his assertions with experiences or beliefs of your own, then by all means do so. However, it's purely bush league to tell anyone that they should be better than to disagree with you. I'd say that you, Swinging Johnson, should be "better than that" but I won't stoop to that level.

If it's any consolation, it's no better when you have a son.

I lay awake some nights thinking about the stupid ho's out there that will try to manipulate my boy, use their cooch to reel him in, play stupid mind games that he'll just get so bored of trying to figure out that he'll say "yes" to whatever.

It's no good either way. All we can do is cross our fingers, buy a big gun, let the fiancee know we have it and then hope for the best. I swear to f this makes me ill thinking about.

I think you should just hope he turns out gay. It's not the stigma that it used to be and there's a profound absence of the "getting/staying married just for the sex/kids" dysfunction. The only major manipulation that I see going on in gay culture right now is the influence held by partners with money over a partner without money, but since that's been going on since money was invented, your only defense remains to see that he selects a career with high earning potential.

And while he may end up on all fours someday begging for the rooster, at least you can hide behind the inherent ambiguity in which partner is doing what in the gay bedroom.
